Everton and Umbro have drawn inspiration from Goodison Park for the Blues’ 2016/17 home kit.
The new strip celebrates the home of the Blues and includes the co-ordinates of the ‘Grand Old Lady’ in the back of the neck of the shirt.
Goodison Park is one of the world’s oldest purpose-built and most famous football stadia, hosting more top-flight games than any other stadium in England and home to a plethora of legendary footballing moments and Everton players, including
Dixie Dean,
Alan Ball and
Alex Young.
In addition to boasting such a rich history, the stadium also features the famed criss-cross architectural signature of Archibald Leitch, who designed the Bullens Road stand.
This iconic design is also included on the shirt, with Umbro creating a Leitch-style graphic to appear above the co-ordinates of Goodison Park.
The 2016/17 home shirt, in traditional Everton blue, features a white rib collar and contrasting white and yellow detailing on the cuffs.
The shirt boasts the latest in technical innovation and includes a breathable structured mesh, featuring a graphic embossed panel, on the lower front side and back of the shirt.
The white shorts have a tailored silhouette with a blue and yellow trim, a subtle nod to the Umbro kit of 1997. White socks with a comfortable cotton footbed and a blue and yellow contrast stripe complete the kit.
Everton will wear the new kit at the Club’s final fixture of the season against Norwich City at Goodison Park on Sunday 15 May.
Speaking about the new kit, Everton captain
Phil Jagielka said: “There’s nothing like playing at Goodison Park in front of our passionate fans and knowing you are following in the footsteps of some of the greatest footballers in the world. The nod to the stadium and its history in the kit is a great touch. I love the detail of having the co-ordinates on the neck of the shirt.”
