Why there is a demand for change and the reasons to be optimistic for the future

Thanks, I think we have to stop apologising for wanting success. It seems like a dirty word for Evertonians to use.

Perhaps us Evertonians old enough to remember it have to speak up more to make it more acceptable.

....i suspect some are still scarred by the dark days of edge of the cliff games against Wimbledon and Coventry. Remembering those days, mid-table mediocrity was a success. Of course you are right that we should demand more, we need to come out of the shadows from both a business and playing perspective.

I can understand fans frustration but I am assuming there's plenty happening that can't be communicated at this stage. Moshiri is a world class businessman and I believe he can make the things you ask for happen.

I bloody love reading post by @The Esk

This bit struck a chord with me:
"To conclude I’m struck by one thing – throughout our history, when Everton have resources and talent available to us we taste success. We’ve now got the resources, we need to bring in the talent on and off the pitch, and yes we’ll taste success once more, not just a fleeting glimpse as in the past, but success built on a sustainable platform, building further success for the future."

Oh how I hope! The relevancy issue is also very real. Younger people now see us on par with Stoke, Southampton, West Ham etc. Although we obviously see ourselves as much bigger. The problem is, if kids from outside Everton think that, players around the World will to and we will have trouble attracting top talent.

Heres to next year anyway, may it be better than the past 2!

as usual, fantastic read. articulated what in the hands of most users (let alone the social media mongs) would be furious hammering of the keyboard.

Looking forward to this summer. We will see if Moshiri is really mean it to take this club forward. The cablire of the new manager (if any) will give us the answer.

I think the relationship has changed already. I suspect Moshiri under estimated the degree of inertia within the club, certainly the lack of managerial talent.

Think most of us under estimated the manager bit. I did.

Moshiri is at best, humouring him, would be my educated guess.

I don't know. I just get the impression that he doesn't want to upset the status quo too much. Wasn't he happy with a backseat role at Arsenal?

Great piece. It all comes down to ambition for me. Top clubs are showing that no matter how much money or talent you throw at something you can't guarantee success. The champions league has never been retained the premier league is starting to follow a similar pattern. All I ask from Everton is that we try, that we want success even if it's not happening, but the most recent managerial appointment and several recent transfer windows was the first time I gave up hope as it became clear that Everton had no other interest than surviving in the premier league.

If Moshiri does make resources available, and bring in a top manager, then everything else can fall into place. We may be able to retain one of Stones and Lukaku if we're showing the necessary ambition. If we do retain Lukaku, there is no limit to what we could achieve. Liverpool Spurs and Leicester are all recent examples of teams not packed with quality from 1-11 but with a star striker and a system that works. There is no reason we could not make an impact on the conversation at the top of the table, especially if we can actually supplement Lukaku with top talent around him.

We really are a massive sleeping giant in this league. We already have very good talent, if we bring in a top manager, implement a good system, retain our talent and add key additions, our potential for improvement is probably the greatest in the league.

We'll see. I haven't seen anything concrete to give me hope as yet.

On the other hand, Elstone (presumably presiding over the inertia) is given a fancy new title.

I'm hopeful but not overly excited.
