Mate, we have a game in hand on everybody above us (in the away league table) apart from City. If the away table was the deciding factor, then we'd be competing for CL based on that criteria.
We're not competing for the CL though, and that's without question. It's not been good enough, but let's not pretend his comment was in any way delusional.
He might have been trying to put a positive spin on things, but I'm not gonna laugh at him for what was a fairly accurate comment.
What is delusional or more accurately downright disingenuous is the fact that he is using this artificial device of dividing the season into home and away games to somehow suggest that there is no problem and that suddenly the team is going to discover that playing at home is the same as playing away. Nonetheless he ducks consistently the question about what precisely the team is doing differently away from home. Personally I think it is little more than a statistical aberration and focusing on it is simply a tactic to divert from the reality that our form in general is shocking.
The semi-final is another thing used for this purpose. Apparently we have shown incredible mental strength to reach the semis which begs the question where is this supposed mental strength in the rest of the season.
