New job, question about hours.

Been offered a new job which pays pretty well and requires me to only work 37.5 hours a week.

In the contract it does not state whether this 37.5 hours a week includes a lunch break or not... in-fact it mentions nothing about lunch breaks.

Is it standard for lunch breaks to be included in the total hours ones need to work per week or is it more likely to not include them ?

Been self employed for most of my life so never really had to deal with this stuff before apart from in my last job where it was all spelled out for me in the contract so there could be no confusion.

Depends what field you are working in I think mate.

I don't get paid for "breaks" but get an hours paid lunch. Always work through lunch tho, my choice.

Never get this, nobody appreciates you for it, trust me. Even your managers think you're trying too hard to get in their good books and your colleagues think you're a brown nose.

Take your breaks, you are entitled to them.

Unless you're self employed in which case time is money, lads.

Crikey Jal it's not that bad. . I get a lot of freedom. I'm not in a corporate chess game pal.

Your principles are correct tho. Take what you are entitled to, it's the way our economy works.

37.5 hours.

9-5 (8 hrs) minus 30 min unpaid lunch and probably including two (paid) 15 min breaks.

;)
