We should never have gone for him in first place though, he won an fa cup but he made Wigan worse season after season. He won an fa cup which you can't take away from him and if he retired tomorrow that would probably be what he was remembered for in 20 years time. I could live with 8-10th if we could see something being built, unfortunately it looks the opposite. My overriding frustration with him has been his interviews over the last 2 years. I don't know if he says things to the media to shield the players or he believes the stuff he comes out with, which is worrying if he does.

We need to try and get an established manager now.
Hindsight etc. we just weren't in the market for a marquee manager. Wish we were but we weren't. Off the names floated at the time, the realistic names: who would have done better. Remember, we are currently 11th and in the FA cup semi. I think he should go, but I'm asking us to consider whether Neil Lennon would have us in a better position. People need some perspective on here.

I fully agree, If your looking to challenge for CL and EL you can't go for a younger manager who's gaining experience, you need someone who's got the experience.
With a little common sense here then there is a great oppertunity ahead of us. Will we finish in the top 4 next year? Unlikeley, but if we can compete for europa then that is a great start, sign some good talent who isnt at the beginning of their career (luakaku quality players aside) and build a team that does more than just compete with west ham/southampton and the like. That will be good enough for me, and like you said earlier, if we were 8th and a semi final, i would be fine with that result for martinez, at least we are up there competing. The fact we are nowhere near is why he is on the brink of leaving.

Tbf the vast majority of the fanbase would have preferred Klopp because of his pedigree. Fans got behind Martinez because...erm...he was our new manager and we hoped he would grow at a club with a bigger budget than Wigan. But let's not rewrite history and pretend folks would have turned their nose up at Klopp. He's won a top European league and got to the final of the Champions League. When he was hired at Liverpool, most on here were laughing coz their squad was so crap, not because he was.

I agree, I think at the time Klopp and Periera were near the top of people lists to replace Moyes. I don't follow European football so didn't know a lot about them, still don't really. I think people were excited for a new manager whilst still angry about the way Moyes left. I think people are fed up with Martinez and hoping for the excitement of a new manager all over again.

You can also throw in the feeling around Everton at the moment too, the attitude of the players don't look right, even a lot of fans feel fed up. I know lads who go every home and away and didn't even turn up on Saturday. You would never think we had a Derby and a semi this week.

Wonderful think hindsight.

although jesus, when we were proving them wrong with him, they went one step further with their version of him!
Yes.....he had that look about him in that picture someone posted here on Saturday after the match :pint2:

Yeah I can imagine him looking over at Bill as he was getting his ears chewed off thinking 'Bill what have you done to me you lovey [Poor language removed]'.

Can't find the article now but he was naive

He said that some teams have their defining moment in Feb when they are knocked out of the f.a cup

The other comments I don't like was that he said football not about the manager but the players. That he lets the players enjoy themselves on the pitch which is naive

Full quote after being asked if this was a defining week at Everton.

"Of course. Every team has a defining week. We are going to have a defining week in mid April. Other teams have defining weeks in February when they are out of the FA Cup"

I wonder does he realise we have a derby game before the cup game?. If we get dumped out at the wkend he has nothing left, no more excuses.
