If they did some research before they talked and looked at our record the last two seasons they'll know exactly why the majority have had enough.

Sunday Supplement is a load of tosh.

That guy defending Martinez is a Newcastle journo so he's just a blert. Sam Wallace never gets off the fence with anything and Martin Samuel, well the less said about him the better.

Yet he has bought 3 right wingers with one already at the club? If it's such an issue why can't he see it?
 
I think BlockHead has articulated the position very well. A couple of comments I would make are that "good" offensive managers win games not titles we have a poor offensive manager as we didn't win many games. I would also give Baines more credit, I would like to see him playing under anew regime before I would be ready to dismiss him.
I agree with other posters BlockHead - post of the day.

Just demonstrates that they believe the rubbish that RM spouts and/or don't watch many games.

Was a poor analysis from experienced journos, and in no way addressed the title mythinez that Neil Ashton put in his running order.

Mirallas - talented, but moody and mercurial... needs cuddling, cajoling and man managing.

Baines - loyal, gifted offensively but at times defensively, he stands too far off his man. Terrific in combination with Stevie P, but sadly those days are gone and it looks as though time and injuries are beginning to catch up with Leighton.

McCarthy - terrific first season, great work ethic, but limited in a league where ball winners need to be ball players as well. A modern day but incomplete version of Paul Bracewell.

Barkley - widely accepted as a huge, huge talent who at times looks utterly lost. Better playing offensively slightly behind and in support of the main striker than in a defensive midfield role. Tends to delay too much because - it seems to me - he's trying to think about what to do next too much. Needs to play quicker and much more instinctively.

Because it appears the squad spend little or not time on defensive drills and tactics as some/all of the coaching staff don't see it as being necessary, we now have a disjointed, lacking cohesion, low in confidence and self-esteem rear guard and the only thing that will change that is a complete change of coaching staff and methodology. All the top, top managers of the last fifty years have built sides on solid, defensive foundations... I don't even have to list them, we all know it's true.

Managers who rely purely on attacking football win games, but not titles.

A team needs a strong spine and that has to start, without fail, with a quality, confident, confidence inspiring goalie. It then has to have a central defender who organises and commands the rest of the back four. Throw in a strong, combative, but ball-playing midfield general and a centre forward with power, pace, the ability to battle AND compete in the air... And you have your spine.

Ideally you'ld like a Holy Trinity in midfield, but they're a once in a lifetime gift of the footballing Gods.

This has to be the starting point and if you look at the current squad, you can make the following assessment or ask the questions...
Is Joel Robles the confident, confidence inspiring goalie ?
Jags, bless him, isn't the best organiser or commander of a back four.
Who is our midfield general... Our Bobby Collins, our Peter Reid, our, dare I say it, Stevie Me ?
And for all his pace and power, Rom is not the best in the air if we're brutally honest.

Bottom line is, we currently are a squad of gifted, talented individuals that needs moulding into being a team. The squad needs moulding, re-shaping and if necessary by the addition of some much harder training, tactics and discipline.

The current manager and his coaching staff are woefully inadequate for that role as they've shown previously at Wigan and comprehensively over the course of this and last season.

Everton is a proud and once powerful club with a long and much envied history, but right now we are not a sleeping giant, we are a soft-bellied pushover and that has to change and the change has to begin much, much sooner than later. With every day that goes by, our chances of taking any crumb of comfort from this season decrease.

El Bob is seemingly a very nice man and is probably great company to be around, but he is not the man to take this club to where we want it to be.

I'd like to us at least approach Jose Mourinho or Joachim Loew about taking the job, and set a two/three year target of reaching the top four. Let's not get too giddy and demand the title in two years, that simply won't happen, much as we'd all like it to. However, strong and steady improvement over two years with a serious challenge in year three would not, in my opinion, be an unreasonable ask.

This is exactly the sort of post ive been asking for from people who want change.

A really well thought out brief on the type of manager + individual players + timeline for change and reasonable targets.

Well played. Cant fault it at all really...

Just to add my own opinion:

1-- The spine is attractive for a new manager. He has there,Stones--Barkley--Lukaku (lets assume the players see Mourinho or Loew come in and are excited and stay).

Those 3 are alll potentially world class, but at the moment it is potential as none of them have the ability of the superstars alone (not even lukaku as you say he still needs to improve). What we need is to have players around them in the spine to improve the team and also this will in turn compliment them and aid their development.

Martinez has done well here for me in playing them as much as possible. I firmly believe that they are now all better players for the trust he has placed in them but now they need to be taken on to the next level.

Keeper -- Dominant keeper is needed. Someone who the defence, manager and even the fans can trust. We saw the difference with Howard and Robles, imagine having a truly top keeper at the back. Breeds confidence.

Centre back -- Totally agree on Jagielka here, sound defender but not a leader in the mould of any of the top premier league winning captains over the years. We need a top player here with organizational and leadership skills. Someone who can compliment Stones and aid his development also.

Defensive/Centre midfield -- We basically have a terrier in McCarthy who cost £13mil and effectively does the donkey work for a 35 year old player and also an international player who is frequently injured. The game these days requires a truly top central pairing at the highest level and for all of the praise on Barry, he is not the way forward. We need to bring in a superstar midfield general here who can control games and who the opposition are worried about facing.

I think with those 3 signings we would have the basis of a very solid spine. It was good to read about Cillisen (though i think we could do better) and Manolas in the press as these are the types we need to dramatically improve the team.

Mourinho came into Chelsea and immediately focused on the spine with Essien etc coming in and doing for them precisely what we need now. Loew also came into the Germany job and the first thing he did was bring in solid players to compliment the attacking play Klinsmann had adopted.

Having said all that, i think Mourinho for example would want to change the full backs as well. They just arent solid enough defensively and also of course the left side as well as options from the bench.

Also, giving one of these top managers the reigns and a 3 year plan could be a wise move and attract top players +keep our stars on board. I am certain that we are attractive enough and we have the money to develop the squad.

The only thing holding me back really is that i am keen to see if Martinez with money could do all this himself in the summer....

Im not opposed to a top manager coming in (would be foolish not to recognise the benefits) but it would depend on who they were, what the plan was and what changes they would make (all hypothetical of course).
 
I met Kenwright once. I actually bumped into him in the street outside his offices in London during a January transfer window. "Hello Bill" says I "Who are we signing then?"
He looks at me with a slight sneer on his face and replies "Where are you from?"

"You're not an Evertonian" he says

God help us if he's still in charge next season when he deems a pathetic 1-1 draw with Watford, who haven't won a game since the start of February, as a "strong result".
 
@Zatara if we do give him money what will stop him from buying more players in positions we don't need!? He's stocked heavy in cm he's bought 3 right wingers with one already at the club, we have been crying out for.a pienaar replacement for 3 seasons and he hasn't brought one in? He's only just got a backup striker who still may not be as good as Kone for Gods sake l!! He hasn't addressed the keeper situation, we have 1 decent right back in the squad and no competition for Barkley
