Disagree. It is a sport and yes sport is entertainment. It is not a soap opera, if people wanted to watch a soap opera they would turn on their tv.
If people choose to watch football good for them, if they want to participate in a forum dedicated to their team of choice then that is also their choice. I think its quite condescending stating `its being sold to them` of course it is. Do you think you are telling us something new? Something we do not know? Some choose to buy a ticket, season ticket or subscribe to a sport channell, free will ..... and a forum provides a platform for people to participate in ........ or not if that is what they choose

Why do you assume you are telling us something new, that we do not allready know and choose to make up our own minds up over ?

If you see it as `utter nonsense` then good for you, but a lot of us disagree.

Perhaps you should throw away your telly, computer, and go and live in a cabin in the woods, you could then write a book about
the `ills of society`as it has not been done before.............
Well said mate

Then why don't we?

Why have we not closed down crosses for large parts of the season?
Like I've said previously in this thread. It's more down to lack of concentration, players get tired late in games, and they don't think straight. If it was early in games, they'd instantly know "right I have to rush out there and stop this cross" whereas later on, it's more of a "will I? Won't I? Ah, someone else can do it".

Well there's a bit of naivety there. The manager isn't solely responsible for everything the players do out on the pitch, and the players don't follow the instructions given to them down to the tee. I'd highly doubt Martinez was telling the players not to close down crosses, they're our weak point in defending, and for the sake of Martinez, I have some hope that he can see that.
See that is naivety in itself mate. He had switched to 3 at the back, which we aren't comfortable doing. So straight away he had weakened the areas that west ham could cross from. As for him seeing that? Literally days afterwards he denied we had a crossing weakness after west ham players said the opposite.

this is what i mean about not seeing games out. Same as 3-1 stoke for example, short time left and yet we lost. It isn't just what happens in the drssing room either, the manager needs to be able the manage on the sidelines as well. You see west ham putting crosses in more, or looking to get into space, you tell your now wing backs to drop back. You see a sub being picked out for passes, you put someone on them to man mark them etc. you use subs to counter what the other team is doing, none of this happens with us. We keep doing the same thing win or lose, exactly the same as last year.

Hell gareth barry coming on in the 89th minute AFTER we have conceded twice? What good will that do? Or the formation in the Arsenal game by the end, was never going to get anywhere unless one of our better players does something special.

And that attitude to defence comes straight from Senor "I don't worry about clean sheets" Martinez

Then it's fitness issues, or lack of discipline - both being the responsibility of the manager

It's neither anyway, it's his tactical ineptitude. As he doesn't get them closing down the opposition well enough, we back off, allow space and then teams create goal scoring situations.

To be honest mate, it probably comes down to fans wanting to hear a little bit of honesty from him.

The lack of honesty is what angers me the most. If he came out and said, I have this idea about how we'll play eventually but we dont have everything in place yet so we might have to take a different approach to get results...or words to that effect I'd happily give him a chance to turn things around. The fact is he is basically holding a finger up at us while telling the players its business as usual.
