Everton Youth Teams Thread

Yeah in "Scholar years" ( 1st Sept birth date) they are in the same one as Brewster, Broadhead, Yarney , Yates plus Walsh , Connolly and Holland. It mixes up at International level ( 1st Jan D.O. B.) e.g. Davies u 18, Connolly u19.

The pleasing thing is the young age of the team. Of last nights starting 11 only the four mentioned above ( Brewster, Broadhead, Yarney , Yates ) wont be eligible for the u 18 s next year and the impressive Denny is 15 and still to even become a Scholar. The likes of Evans, Lavery , Feeney and Bramall are also still eligible next season , plus a new intake of Scholars and its looking good for us to continue building on our crop of good U18 teams.

It all needs to be put into perspective of course, hard to tell just how young or good the other teams were and for some last night may have been the pinnacle of their career, but I'm still buzzing just happy that we were the best ! And when Martinez made his "Golden Generation" comment not one of last night's player were in my 7 or 8 I thought he meant.

Jeez forgot about Liam Walsh in the same age group and Evans.

Agree on the Martinez golden generation comments, the only lads I'd heard about from that team were Brewster and Yates and there were plenty ahead them in the thought process as to who he meant.

Always interested in the development right back to likes of ossie, bally, Dunne ando Jeffers and a even further back with Rob Wakenshaw, Paul Lodge etc.

This lot seem an abundant talent pool, let's hope we get a fair few of them into the professional game!!

I am not sure whats happened to young Brammall. Played a lot last year but not featured much. I wonder if he has got an injury?

You are right though, we have a plethora of talent in the younger ages. As I put a few posts back, we could put an 11 out of starting players from our under 18's who are either out on loan, with the 21's or playing internationally. That's not to say this is a "b" team as that would be too simplistic, but it does go to show the talent we have, mainly comprised of local lads.

Overall great to see Brewster really kick on. I agree with your comment a few pages back, I think Duffus, Dyson and Byrne need to be moved on to give Brewster exposure.

.....I appreciate and support the accolades for Brewster but I was most impressed with Beni Beningime. The team were generally poor in the first game against Tigres but he stood out. I assume he's made of the right stuff for him to be skipper and I'll watch him with particular interest in the next few seasons.

Very composed and assured he's looked hasn't he.

....he has, Matey. In that first game the testosterone was flying and most had lost their heads but he was exactly as you say. Composed on the ball but a real athlete. I notice he was born in Congo but came here as a kid, he's got a chance.

Definitely, he was excellent again last night. In fact they all were, very disciplined, excellent shape, working for each other, superb teamwork. He's really stood out though with some mature performances and his reading of the game has been excellent.

Looks like Sheedy and his staff really have an excellent way of working and developing the young lads, I always enjoy listening to Sheedy and what he has to say about the players. The type of manager who you would want to play for he comes across as in interviews.

the amount of central midfielders we seem to be able to develop at 16-19 is amazing, i really hope a few of them have fulfilled their potential at 22/23.

.....as somebody said earlier, some will forge careers in the lower leagues and some will fall by the wayside but it would be great if just one or two can come through to Premiership level. I don't want to get carried away with the Dallas Cup because I'm wary of the standard but winning doesn't do anybody any harm.

As he gains size and tactical awareness, he could become a good player

It's a weird competition, isn't it? Really good for what it is, but not really sure what it exactly is. List of winners is pretty strong though--seems like it takes something extra to get it done in 8 days, and I'm guessing that's what separates th sides.

Was really impressed with him to, also showed great technical ability.
I know he sat infront of the back 4
But looks to me that he could have a big influence going forward.

I thought the 15yrd old showed great composure to especially when he was in some tight spots in the 2nd half

A possible future manager ?

....they must think an awful lot of a schoolboy to involve him in this age group.
