Thats right, and thats what the stat is ` without Lukaku`s contribution` we would be 16th.
I agree another player may have scored some but not all. End of the day we are 12th WITH his contribution so any replacement scoring less
would see us lower than 12th .... I find that unacceptable with the 2nd highest scoring player of the season, and a huge doubt as to the managers ability going forward .

I couldn't agree more with the sentiment in your last sentence.

It still doesn't make it a stat.

But the point is mate is it is irrelevant.

Pundits (usually on TalkSPORT) always bring up 'well look where (insert team name) would be without (insert name of striker/keeper etc.). The point is it's daft, as the players do play and are available.

It almost gets used as a stick to beat RM with at times ; 'without Lukaku we'd be crap'

Irrelevant. He signed Lukaku we've got Lukaku and Lukaku is fit and scores.

If Poch hadn't brought Kane in Spurs would be nowhere near the top four, never mind top two. Same with Vardy and Mahrez at Leicester.

hate to tell you this but even with lukaku we are crap.

No, me neither.

He might sign a deal that terminates at the end of the season if they go down, but gives him 3 years plus a whopping bonus if he keeps them up.

I'd agree with this. He'll come in with a simple job. Do better than Sunderland and Norwich.

They're 2nd bottom as it is. If he does it he's a hero. If he doesnt it's not his fault.

Who are they getting?

Some on here have shouted for McClaren FFS.

Mclaren? I did say in Mcleish in a previous post, quickly followed by (JOKE) in brackets. Could we consider the Neville's, if Valencia's fortunes continue to improve?

Whoever the new manager is (hoping we have one!) they have huge opportunity thanks to Moshiri, plus the natural progression of Pienaar, Gibson, Osman from the squad , hopefully with Kone & RM.

With changes underway at Chelski could we raid for Ivanovic & Will.I.am?

That would add winning experience to a side already boasting Robles (done well so far) Coleman, Jags, Stones, Baines, Barry, McCarthy, Besic, Barkley, Del, RL, Niasse - keeping Lenon, Fumes Mori, Oviedo, Mirallas, Galloway & Cleverley as quality bench / rotation options.

Maybe room for another headline signing in there, but I'd not like to change too much and would rather see new money go to Academy and Stadium as a priority.

Apologies this should go in a different thread, just too excited thinking about a post-Martinez Everton :)

Use the search function in the locked Martinez thread...there are shouts for McClaren...ridiculous as it may sound.

Martinez: "Every player needs to do what they are very, very good at and that is the only tactic."

There is one tactic after all. I wasn't sure

That's all true I think mate but RM made a huge mistake on Saturday with that sub. No excuses for it it was amateur at best after what had been a superb all-round performance from the players and manager.

That also doesn't excuse the capitulation from the players, which I have referenced as well. However, for me it's the first time I've seen RM really panic. He didn't have a clue how to sort the side once W.Ham scored and that's a massive fault.

He panicked and then his only answer was, in the 88th minute, to bring on Barry when the damage was already done. Low and behold West Ham attack straight after that sub and Payet gets away from... you guessed it, Barry, to score the winner.

We saw the best and worst of Martinez on Saturday and I can't see how anyone can deny it. Even I, who has supported him firmly and fully, was extremely, was extremely disappointed and his comments after the game such as 'we don't have a problem defending crosses' etc have not stemmed any concerns as it is blatantly not true.

This may stem back to a lack of leadership in the side and I agree that is definitely an issue as well, but RM hasn't helped himself this week. I don't expect him to come out and say 'yes I got it totally wrong' - but his constant waffle and jargon are doing nobody any favours unfortunately.
Sounded enforced in the light of today's news Lennon's carrying a knock and may not play on Saturday. Also, he was fading. Martinez went went like for like with another player out wide to replace him in Niasse. I didn't see it as a major error. The error's were obvious: a failure to compete, the source of which is in that lack of organisation and communication mentioned above.

One swallow doesn't make a summer....

A win on Saturday is what we all want, and another Wembley SF would be great, but it wouldn't alter the validity of anything said by Blues concerned about Martinez and our league position in here.
No, maybe not. And my argument is that last Saturday's result falls into the same category....but it didn't stop a massive hair on fire reaction to a defeat. And the same holds for an important win if we get it.

Fickle.

This is interesting. I would have assumed they would have had some contact.

"Everton are hoping that Moshiri’s investment can push them on to the next level, but Martinez says that he has not met with the Iranian billionaire to discuss the future yet.

“Not yet, no,” he said, when asked whether he had enjoyed any meetings with Moshiri. “At the moment nothing has been set in place in order to start that working relationship."

I think we need a real leader at the back or in goal, someone who's going to give the rest of the defence a mouthful if they slack off or concede. I'm not sure RM is the type of manager to bring the hair dryer out but I think some of our defenders have warranted being given a right ticking off in the changing room at times this season.

It would be a concern if we lose Lukaku but posting league tables, positions, without his goals is just a bit silly. If we sell him we'll be able to replace him, at the very least, with a very good striker. Because Lukaku is so good the main focus of our play is to get the ball to him, you might find the goals are spread out more if he did leave.

I agree it would be a worry if he goes and it would be really hard to get in a striker who could score as often but trying to make out we'd be almost relegated without him is stretching credibility, at least trying to make out it's a fact that we would be is.
