Jags Says Stuff!

“Things are going pretty well,” he said when asked about his rehabilitation.

“I think it’s six months more or less to the day now. I’m running and hoping to start some non-contact training next week. I can’t wait until I’m back.

“I was a good spectator initially but now I get more and more frustrated. It’s not nice to see the boys not doing so well.

“I’m gutted for the lads who have not had much of a rub of the green recently, but hopefully as and when I get back I can help the lads.

“I’ve had enough of watching now and I’m raring to go

In other good news!

LEIGHTON BAINES is poised to give beleaguered David Moyes a much-needed fitness boost by returning to action for Everton tomorrow.

The left-back has been missing after sustaining a calf problem in preparation for the Europa League clash against Benfica in Lisbon last week.

In the absence of Baines, Everton have lost three successive games while conceding 10 goals during that period.

But the 24-year-old has responded well to treatment and is expected to be in contention for the Premier League visit of Aston Villa.

Everton were without 10 senior professionals for the Carling Cup defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, with Louis Saha adding to the injury list when forced off at half-time with his own calf injury.

Saha will be given further time to prove his fitness before tomorrow afternoon, with Everton aiming to halt a run of five games without a win.

The Frenchman’s injury gave Jo a chance to impress from the substitutes’ bench on Tuesday night, with the Brazilian delivering his most effective performance for some time.

With Yakubu working his way back to full match fitness, the forward line is the one area where Moyes has been able to juggle his resources.

And Jo said: “I think competition for places is good because the more world-class players you have the better.

“The competition is quite fierce but it’s a long season and we’re involved in lots of competitions so, in my opinion, the more players we have the better.

“Having a squad of 20 top-class players to choose from will be nice because we have so many games to play.”

Despite Everton’s difficult week, Jo is convinced Moyes’ side can soon rediscover their form.

“It was quite a difficult start to the season for the whole team, even though we had a good pre-season, but we then picked up some great results,” he added.

“I’m confident we will keep on picking up good results as the season wears on.”

Phil Neville, one of Everton’s many long-term injured, has reiterated his desire for a return in time for the clash at former club Manchester United on November 21.

The club captain has been sidelined since suffering a knee problem at Fulham early last month.

And Neville said: “It is six weeks since I met the surgeon and he said I would have peaks and troughs and plateaus with the injury.

“The first three or four weeks I thought I would be back playing inside six weeks, but I have reached a plateau now and it is frustrating! I really want to be back training and helping the guys out.

“I am hoping to be back for the Man United game. But you never know.

“That would be eight weeks after the injury and the surgeon said it was a 12-week injury. It just depends on how it is healing and how it is progressing.

“I am back running now which is good so we’ll take each day as it comes. In an ideal world I would love to be fit for the Man United game which is after the next international break.”

Everton manager David Moyes wouldn’t be drawn on which players are fit and available for Saturday's Premier League game against Aston Villa.

The Toffees have had to operate with a lengthy injury list in recent weeks but the manager didn’t reveal which, if any, players might be back for the visit of Martin O’Neill’s side.

Nevertheless, the Blues boss has refuted claims from some quarters that he has been complaining about the amount of bodies sidelined for recent fixtures.

Moyes said at his pre-match press conference: "A couple of people have been accusing me of whinging about injuries. I would hate to think that I've done that. I think in fact that I've done the opposite.

"We've got injured players just like every one else. But I'm sure that we'll get eleven players out there to play against Aston Villa."

The players in who have missed the games prior to the visit of the seventh-placed Midlanders are defenders Leighton Baines and Joseph Yobo and midfield trio Steven Pienaar, Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, Leon Osman.

Three who definitely won't be involved however are Mikel Arteta, Victor Anichebe and James Vaughan, while striker Louis Saha was withdrawn at half-time in the midweek Carling Cup defeat to Tottenham.

But the two Phil's - Jagielka and club captain Neville - are edging back to full fitness. Moyes, however, is urging fans not to expect them back in action just yet.

"Jagielka is getting very close to a return," he said, "Phil Neville won't be too far away from return either. They are both really important players who have been missed and they really play a big part in two of things at this club; resilience and spirit."

Lucas Neill could be in line for his first taste of Goodison Park action, while Yakubu was boosted by a full 90 minute run-out on Tuesday against Spurs.

I think there's more ways than one of complaining about injuries. You can be upfront and say stuff like "We're snookered here. I cant put a team out. How can anyone be expected to deal with this?". Or you can say stuff like "we've had a terrible run of injuries but we'll just have to pick the best team available to us and get on with it"...over and over again, which is also drawing attention to injuries.

In other words (and I'm not disputing injuries as a factor in poor results), I think Moyes is a bit disengenuous when he makes that defence. He knows it's been part of his recent postmatch analysis when things went wrong. I'd far rather he'd come out there today and just lash back at Wobbly Head Redknapp's criticisms of his stance on the injury plague. Listening to that crook midweek talking about Spurs also being short of players was infuriating. Name names Moyesie.

hope it does'nt take long to be honest 3 loses in such a short space of time dont think i have ever been so depressed

Right so basically the one or two possible players to return for the Villa game has now been replaced with nobody is returning from injury just yet, and we may not have Louis Saha either.

Well ******* great. Can't wait for tomorrow.

Ok, lets tell the media and Martin O'Neill who's fit to play tomorrow so they can adjust their tactics accordingly.

Put down the pitchfork man, everythings going to be just fine from this point onwards.

The squad has been announced mate and it's the same squad that was for the Spurs game, plus Saha is a doubt.
