Interesting. Close to two thirds of the forum voting "in", so far. Not much over 25% "out".

History seems to suggest plotter majority in "In/Out" polls has and will be for the foreseeable future, a phenomenon observed only in the immediate aftermath of bad performance. A knee-jerk overreaction, if you will.

These findings suggest that once posters calm down after their post-match fume, they vote "in".

It's a knee-jerk overreaction to vote 'out' after 19 months of torridness yet voting 'in' because we've won 4 out of 5 games is level headed voting.

There are that 25% that are steadfast in their loyalty to plotting. I respect that. I spoke only about plotter majority in polls.

Beat me to it. Those that have changed their minds on the basis of the last five / six / eight games are the knee-jerkers, by definition.

The general trend under Martinez has been downwards, and he's GOT to reverse that trend. Now, the last five or six games MIGHT be the start of exactly that reversal - I pray to God that it is. But it is the very essence of short-sightedness to say "YES!!! The last five games definitively prove that the wealth of garbage results over the last 20 months are now a thing of the past!". He's got 12(?) game left this season - if this mini-revival turns into sustained improvement, as demonstrated by climbing the table to 8th and EITHER winning the Fa Cup or getting a win in the Derby then I would regard that as a corner turned on the simple basis that it's a bigger chunk of evidence.

He's got the squad to do it... I'd back first-season Martinez to do it. Time will tell, and it's entirely down to him.

Nonsense. I just think it's stupid to sack a manager when he seems to be turning things around. I would never agree with sacking a manager after a win. That's nothing to do with knee jerking.

No-one is suggesting we should. I think you've misunderstood.

The only thing we appear to be differing on is whether a stretch of just five games is REALLY a big enough sample of evidence to suggest that things have been "turned around". If he IS turning it around, then presumably we will see continued proof of this in a string of improving results that moves us up the table. The mere use of the phrase "turning it around", when applied to the last five games, implies that you view the performances prior to the last five games as not good enough, just as I do.

Put it another way: if the remainder of this season sees us get knocked out of the Cup in the semifinal, lose to the RS and a register a string of draws and losses causing us to finish tenth, would you still say Martinez seems to be turning things around? I wouldn't. He's got to finish strongly to make up for what has been a lacklustre season so far... the second lacklustre season on the trot. He's got time, and the opportunity: the question is does he have the competency?
