.....an imperious footballer at his best but his injury record and off field issues sway the balance for me. I'd prefer us to get somebody in who offers more.
Mate, he's been available for selection since mid-September and has been in the matchday squad 18 times. He's out of contract at the end of the season and is 7th choice in the Martinez rankings. If he gets the option to go to a promotion-chasing Championship team on loan next week then he should take it as his Everton career looks to be basically finished.
We have a player who can pick a pass and is never injured: Barry.
I am sorry about how things have worked out for Gibson.
Shame, hopefully he goes to play for a manager who appreciates his talents and stops picking average midfielders ahead of him. For 18 months we've been crying out for a midfielder who can pick a pass like he can. Instead we brought Cleverley in then shoved him on the left wing. Good logic to stick with the midfield who came bottom half last season and are currently doing the same.
Lol. Priceless.Their passing is not even comparable. Barry's succession of crab like under hit passes sideways and backwards interspersed with the odd floated punt forward is nothing like Gibson's sweeping range. Best passer at the club, completely changed the WBA away game then was marginalised to cup cameos. How many games (like last week) have we needed a goal and done nothing except change the wide men to no avail? Could Gibson not even come on to change things up for half an hour? Of course he could. Instead Martinez flogs a 35 year old every week for 90 minutes. Gibson like Naismith and Mirallas is a good player unfairly marginalised by the manager.
Will be a shame when Gibson goes, our record with him is excellent. On the contrary I cannot wait until Barry's ridiculous contract finally runs out and that geriatric crab is out of the club.
Hard to disagree with this. Would love him to prove us wrong but it's not going to happen is it.....an imperious footballer at his best but his injury record and off field issues sway the balance for me. I'd prefer us to get somebody in who offers more.
I didn't even realise he could still go out on loan

'Leave Everton on loan' Darron Gibson told by international boss or risk
missing Euro 2016
Martin O'Neill urges Blues midfielder to secure switch to Championship club for rest of season
Darron Gibson has been warned that he risks missing out on Euro 2016 unless he leavesEverton on loan.
Republic of Ireland boss Martin O’Neill has thrown the midfielder’s international future into doubt with less than four months until the tournament.
Gibson has made just seven appearances for Everton this season and was not named in the squad for last weekend’s FA Cup tie with Bournemouth.
O’Neill insists the 28-year-old needs a “run of games” to ensure he is on the plane to France this summer and says it doesn’t matter if they come in the Championship.
“Darron Gibson hasn’t played much,” O’Neill told the Derry Journal.
“I still think there’s an emergency loan option and he’s not getting a game at all with Everton. (Aiden) McGeady went out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday. So I don’t know.
“I think Darron will know what he has to do to get himself involved.
“I don’t see why he can’t make it if he can get a run of games.
“I’m not overly bothered about people dropping down a division.
“We’ll see. It’s February at the moment and we’ll see what develops.

“I think Darron will know what he has to do to get himself involved. I don’t see why he can’t make it if he can get a run of games.
“I’m not overly bothered about people dropping down a division.”
O’Neill added: “The Championship is every bit as competitive as you want it to be,” he maintained.
“The games are tough and a lot of the matches I’m looking at are Championship games anyway.”
O’Neill says he hasn’t spoken with Gibson recently but was clearly keen for his message to reach the Blues man.
“Things can change like anything else,” he went on to say.

“Somebody could get a run of games or he could get in through injury but I would say Everton are going to try to stay as strong as possible until the end of the season because they still have a chance in the FA Cup and Darron’s chances might be limited. But I don’t know.”
“If you want to try and prepare for something like the Euros you’ve got to try and play competitively,” O’Neill said.
“Playing intermittently in Under-21 leagues as an overage player in an afternoon game when there’s no one there is seriously not the answer.
“Playing once in four months for whoever it might be, will not get you fit, It genuinely won’t. You can train everyday but if you’re not playing matches competitively there is a hell of a difference.”
Without trying to blame Gibbo in anyway, to me it sort of sounds like O'Neill knew/suspected there was a serious loan offer (from a Champ club) and Gibbo turned it down.
Madness if true.
I think that Gibson is a player that Martinez really likes. If not for his injuries I think he would have a pivotal role in the team. It is difficult however to try to build a team around a player that has a bad record with injury.
With previous injuries Gibson was always back playing football as soon as he was fit. Gibson has largely been fir for this entire season and I would not be surprised if that was part of the plan. Let him get a good run where he is injury free, even if that means not playing too much . Gibson could easily play into his mid thirties as he depends more on skill and passing rather than speed. I think if he can stay injury free and once properly fit then stay fit he may still have a part to play.
Rgarding the Irish team , if Gibson is fit and Whelan is played ahead of him then O Neill needs shooting.
