Roberto Martinez discussion

Well, the 3 games before weekend suggests you are wrong.

And looking at Bobbys first season....he did what you are wanting from a new bloke!!

Getting the best out of the players isn't wins against crap like Newcastle and Stoke ffs

When's the last time we beat a good side

All may be well again when Besic comes back and puts some urgency and life into the team. Yeah, great he has us playing good possession football and we have notched a few! A bit of steel and drive from Besic might just make all the difference to this side.

No it's not one game though is it?

Since the turn of the year we've looked more assured defensively while still retaining our attacking edge, especially in recent games.

On saturday, we conceded a sloppy goal due to bad marking from experienced players, and couldn't find a way through.

Nothing to do with the system as the system we played saw us create over 20 chances and 30 shots on goal?
SIX shots on goal.

Six.

The rest were off-target or blocked. Don't pretend their keeper had a tough day at the office.

The majority of our shots were from outside the area, and were off-target. Hardly a "system" to boast about.

I agree that with 46 goals from 26 games (third in the league), the offensive system is a travesty. and since I am informed entirely uncritically by phone-in ranters, I too feel that managers are the rightful psychic manifestations upon which to project all conceivable disappointments. Martinez is entirely responsible for Barkley and Barry missing sitters. He should have cooed in their ears more delicately, or projected even more positive orgones, or had dressing room feng shui re-calibrated, or gone with half-time aromatherapy. what a reprobate!

Thereby proving the "Martinez has no plan B" argument. The system he has used successfully to score goals in many other games didn't work against WBA... because they used "park the bus" tactics which everyone and their dog predicted in advance. He didn't do anything to adjust when it became apparent that WBA were happy for us to take shots from 18+ yards and guess what? We only had six shots on target as a result. Where have we seen this before? Why, in most games where our opponents park the bus and we fail to break them down.

We bummed Stoke too.....and don't say they are not a good side!!!!

They were in poor form when we played them. 0 wins and 0 goals in previous 4 games.

Anyway our away form isn't an issue. We play just like Palace and West Ham away from home where we hit teams on the break. It's our home league form which he can't seem to address. Teams come to Goodison and do what we do away from and we can't cope. We are not getting battered as these teams know they have a hell of a chance of a win if they nick a goal and shut up shop. They know exactly what we are going to try and do.

Don't understand hailing the goals for column and saying there's nothing wrong with the attacking system......apart from in attacking this way we leave ourselves hugely open which is why we have the worst home defensive record in Europe. It's the equivalent to saying 'Pulis has sorted his defence out, all he needs to do is improve the attack and it would be great there's nothing wrong'. The reason Pulis' defence is good is precisely because he's sacrificed all attacking thoughts. Martinez has just done the opposite. The key difference is that a small minority of fans prefer being mid table and playing gung Ho attack than being higher in the league playing balanced football....and they're the ones calling others the FIFA generation, ironic.

I predict an alternative league table will rear it's head before the season is out.

It'll be needed when Everton get a merciless Gegenpressing (or whatever it's called) at Wembley North in a few weeks.
