Roberto Martinez discussion

Yawn.

Not talking about yesterday in particular the same way the op wasn't.

Results and figures don't lie. How many teams have taken points at goodison this year and how many have we conceded in the last 18 months. Don't let the truth get in your way

Why yawn though? The result yesterday was unlucky and has no place being grouped with some of the dire performances we've had.

If we were in the top six and picking up points at ease I could agree with this, you do get games where things just don't go your way.

We couldn't't beat Norwich, Swansea, West Ham or Bournemouth so yesterday wasn't one of those days, it was another one of those days.

Why does our place in the standings change what happened yesterday? It was a game we were by far the better side and it just didn't happen.

Same system in every home game this season with an unbalanced one winger formation. Doesn't matter who we're playing he just adopts the same old gameplan. It's getting quite embarassing how predictable and one dimensional we are at home. So easy to counteract.

THIS, THIS AND ALWAYS THIS.

Theres no plan B, we have played the same way at home for almost 3 seasons.

Does he think we are some unknown side? Is he not aware that ANY manager worth his salt will spend all week coaching his players, looking for ways to stop us. Ive read some people having a pop at the way WBA played yesterday, from a footballing POV it was perfect, they got an early goal and they stuck 11 men behind the ball, allowed us to have as much of it as we wanted on the wings and near the centre circle and then cut off the supply to Lukaku, closed down Ross at every chance and defended superbly.

Pullis even knew the sub we would make.

You stick a match winner on, a player that scores goals for fun, not a player that *cough* links play up *cough*.

The thing is , it's a bit like when Robles was read out as starting vs Newcastle. Instantly, the atmosphere changed - everyone thought 'right good, something different, we aren't going to see the same old tosh'.

Yesterday, you saw the line up (for a home game) and thought 'we've got one striker here against a team with four centre backs'.

If he'd started, for examples, Mirallas and Lennon on the wings, Kone and Lukaku up front (the horror, but as a need for change) and put Barkley a bit further back and rested Barry, for example, Pulis would have had to think about it. As it was, he easily nullified our system by playing four centre halves.

Doesn't say a lot for Martinez's 'innovations'.

Not even which sub we would make, but also when we would make it

I would have honestly, rather have put Mori upfront and played Kone at CB.

Thing is Mori was wasted at the back yesterday, they had no interest in attacking, and he can win balls in the air, in fact he did win one good header and nearly scored. Would of been a simple call to make that, other managers at Everton down the years have done it, from Steve Watson to Lyons.

Absolutely. If ever there was a day for a good 4-4-2 it was yesterday. 2 Wingers, Barkley with Barry sitting. He gets outcoached at home to some of the biggest no marks in history of english football. Hughes, Pardew, Pulis, Gueddolin whoever the feck he is....

Mori, Jags and Robles could all have gone upfront.

There is only so many times you can pass the ball sideways along a packed back 9. The last 20 minutes we should have put Maori up and start throwing balls in the box. Not pretty maybe but could cause some havoc. Martinez all over, style before results every time. Don't forget the club ethos lads , possession possession possession.

Remember when he chatted some rubbish about set piece goals being worthless?

The fella makes me cringe everytime he opens his mouth.

For me, this is the biggest worry.

With the exception of Besic and Stones he had all of his best players available to him yesterday (we can't count a player in Niasse that we haven't even seen). He certainly had enough quality to beat a team as poor as West Brom.

And yet he couldn't manage it. League results across the last 60 games would suggest it can't be just written off as 'one of those days'. It suggests there is something fundamentally wrong.

That would have been quite fun - definitely unusual

Completely agree. I'm a bit confused though, are you back in the plotters camp?
