Nah it's not that.

I just wonder what you have seen to single out Barry as the player holding us back, especially when most see him as one of the best players this season.

Step back, read what you wrote, then basque in the ridiculousness of it!

It is basically though. You think Barry is great, I don't. You therefore think my opinion is ridiculous because you believe in a common consensus that 'Barry is great'. You therefore felt the need to discredit my view not with any fact based logic but with an immature patronising irrelevant response.

When you're ready to articulate the case for a 35 year old playing every game in a season (often 3 games a week) at the expense of a full international in his prime using facts rather than 'yeah but he's been our best player everyone said so, what game you watch lad???!!!!??!' Then I am all ears.

Where do I say this? Where do I also say the second one?

I'm out, you aren't bright enough for this to continue.

Folk prattling on about Besic being top class just shows how far our great club has fallen.

If little Mo had rocked up to Bellefield in the mid-80s Howard Kendall would have said "lad you'll need to put some meat on those bones. You might make it but I'll send you out to my mate at Burnley to give you a few games. I've already got Alan Harper to fill in as a decent journeyman"

Until there's some consistency he's not in my sight line.

That's the thing with the modern age. Kids think everyone is either brilliant or terrible. I blame Fifa.

Waiting for a pat on the head from @chicoazul? It'll never come mate. Unless you are chico.....

You don't need to say the second one. That's the reality of the current team. McCarthy seems to be Martinez's first pick then Barry. Barry is keeping Besic out the team. I don't think he deserves to, you said he's been one of our best players this season (thus implying you rate him even if you didn't use the term 'great', nice use of the Davekian semantic shuffle though to deflect from the real issue, you then followed it up with going off in a huff, you lot really are doing a good job mirroring the big man)

Besic's injuries have been keeping him out of the team this season. He's hardly spent much time on the bench, when fit he's usually played.

As it stands, Barry has been one of our most consistent performers this season. Don't see where the argument he hasn't could come from, meself.

As has been said - he's 35 and playing up to 3 games a week (Or has done).

Barry's form won't continue forever. Besic hasn't done anything wrong when he's played recently; but as Barry's been playing well it'd be scabby (And perhaps not tactically feasible) to leave him out.

Besic is the future though. Be in no doubt. That kid's got a touch of Ze Elias about him

Ha ha, when Besic assumes his rightful position in our midfield and Barry is collecting his bus pass and pension you'll see just how much Grandad Barry has held us back.

Two of the worst posts ever seen on here.

Besic is obviously a good player, as is Barry.

*knocks heads together*

*scarpers*

Why would we drop Barry for Besic? Why can't both play and play successfully (like they have done) whilst McCarthy regains full match sharpness. No idea why it's an either/or scenario this season.

I'm a big fan of Besic but Barry has been our best central midfielder this year. It doesn't matter what age he is, if you're good enough and playing well you should play.

Besic is already a very good player and could develop into one of the league's best. I don't see the point in flogging a 35 year old who is only going to continue to decline at the expense of Besic.

Barry gets a lot of praise for decent distribution of the ball. He offers almost nothing off it though. As we're now seeing in midfield a like Leicester's and Spurs, this just won't cut it anymore in the prem. Every player needs to be good in possession and have the tenacity to impact the game when not in possession. Barry runs a lot but when the opposition get on top of us (Bournemouth, Norwich, Leicester) in periods of games we struggle to stop their momentum and get control. Younger more dynamic players are needed in that midfield battle now. No other side in the league are indulging an older player in that position like we are. The likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Toure (end of this season) Scholes all have (or will) moved out the league because it became too physical and they slowed down. All are superior players to Barry yet we seem to think he is still of good enough quality to play every game. Why does no one else in the league think this? If we sold him, who in the top ten would play him every week in their first team?

Average of 2.9 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, 0.9 blocks and 2.4 clearances per game - all of which are superior to either Besic or McCarthy's stats and also better than many other teams midfielders like Coquelin, Dier and Drinkwater.

There are a few who have been clearly a cut above defensively, like Kante, but can't understand how you believe he offers nothing off the ball.

He should be rested more but Besic's/McCarthy's injuries have made that impossible.

You clearly haven't got a clue about what you're talking about.
