Bryan Oviedo

Not just Baines. But he's been part and parcel of a flaky defence that thankfully has been given a more steely approach with his, Stones and Howard's absence.

Can't really argue with that - one this is evident tho' Oviedo baby is not and never will be a right back.

Deserves his starting berth, currently. He's been back to his 13/14 form.

Obviously though if Baines gets himself fit and performing well, Oviedo gets dropped and rightly so as Baines is 5 times the player on form.

I hope the 3 year deal is an indication that we're satisfied he is over his injury problems now.

I like Oviedo but I can't get my head around him being picked ahead of Baines.

The managers already stated why.

Baines had played a lot since injury, got the rest against Carlisle but Oviedo impressed that much that he kept him in against Newcastle, impressed further so stayed in for Stoke. You hope the same applies to Robles.

Baines, Oviedo, Galloway and Garbutt.

And on the other side Coleman and ...nobody.
I don't put Galloway in that group personally. He's not a LB, he's a CB who can fill in at LB. Much like Stones at RB. It's not their position but they can be...serviceable at their respective positions as emergencies. Galloway, imo, is like Hibbert, completely defensive but offers very little going forward. That's not necessarily a bad thing as he should be a CB.

Honestly believe if hibbert was tall enough he would have made a cracking centre half

Excellent point. For all his flaws he could always defend. Boss tackler and a good reader of the game. But in the Prem even 5'11 is a big ask to play CB. But whenever he did play CB he played very well to be fair. I recall him having a great game against City.

Even though Oviedo is criticized for being out of position at times, I was impressed with the sheer amount of crosses he blocked against Stoke, not sure what the final count was. As much as I love Baines, I feel as though I've seen many replays with Baines' left leg kicking ineffectually in the air as a cross sails into the box to be headed into our goal.
