There was no evidence found so how can you be convinced that Steven was involved
It's all circumstantial evidence of course - some of which I think was planted or at least manipulated by the police - but the main reason I think he was involved was the fact that she never left the salvage yard (wasn't seen or heard from after that afternoon) and he gives a statement to say he saw her driving away.

But she was seen after leaving the yard. Coulburn called in her plate to dispatch before she was reported missing and after the date she was at the Avery yard.
Mainly felt sorry for the nephew. They pick and choose what to believe and so clearly bullied a not so bright, shy lad into saying what they wanted.
The kicker is that the tale of events he was convicted on doesn't even match that with which Avery was convicted, hence them dropping Dassey's testimony. They basically got to have their cake and eat it.
