Tim Howard

He should rise above it end of if it was racial then that's different, if its obscene comments that's also different, all players do not respond back to the crowd as it makes it worse - if its just them sounding off over his poor form as they pay their money - then he should just ignore it , and prove them wrong!
I am not a big fan of his over the last 18 months as I feel he is way past his best - the Manager thinks otherwise so is it is fault maybe!

Joey, I agree he should rise above it... the best example I can think of is/was Jim Pearson. He used to get loads, but just kept on plugging away at his game and fair play to the lad, I don't ever recall him giving it back.
Any kind of racial and obscene abuse is indeed unacceptable.

It goes deeper than what he did or didn't do in the match yesterday. The problem is, and it's blatantly obvious, the defence have lost confidence in him. That puts us at a disadvantage from the off. Couple that with an inexperienced defence and you wonder why we are a shambles.

Are some people really still defending a player who insulted the fan base at large and is still yet to apologise?

Get out of our club you Useless Starfish Tit!

So you think it's helpful to abuse him during the game then mate? Sorry but that will do more harm than good.

Also a but hypocritical, talking about balanced debate in the Martinez thread but acting like a whopper in here.

He's shot but while he is on the pitch support him and the team.

No one has ever abused Tim Howard during a match

If he honestly thinks that, he's an oversensitive cry arse in the wrong profession

He got a clap and cheer yesterday along with everyone else when the team sheet was read out

What Tim Howard is getting is reasonable and deserved CRITICISM

There's a massive difference there

No difference really !!

For the benefit of younger/newer fans can I just explain how things work. Most times, the manager can see when a loyal servant is coming to the end of their time. Occasionally a manager is blinkered because they feel loyalty towards a player who has been a good servant to the club. When this happens I am afraid it is up to the fans to tell the manager.

I always remember when Ratcliffe's legs had gone, and Howard Kendall refused to see it. The crowd, myself included, had to let Kendall know what needed to be done. We were booing, almost with tears in our eyes. But no one is bigger than the club. The same happened with Southall, and those two players were much greater servants to Everton than Tim Howard.

If I was going to the match I would be letting Martinez know what needs to be done, especially at the moment when we can sign a new keeper.

I remember that well mate. It was sad to see at the time, but it was obvious his time was up. He was playing him at left back as I recall?

I fear this approach with Martinez would cause him merely to dig his heels in further

Sadly, we're waiting for Howard himself to chuck the towel in and go back to MLS. I can't see Martinez budging. Stubbornness is both a strength and weakness when it comes to his managerial approach. It means he sticks with people like Barkley after a so-so performance but it also means that people like Howard are tantamount to undropable

Rough with the smooth I guess
