Roberto Martinez discussion

Whether Martinez stays is down to whether new owners take over and whether they have patience for success. We'll see
Like anyone will care if a billionaire owner takes over, makes it know his/their intention is to win the League and be in the CL regularly and will provide funds accordingly, and then sack Roberto Martinez the next day for a"world class' Manager?

Agree with this and I would go as far as to say how the potential new owners treat Martinez will go some way as to telling the fans what their ambitions are for the club. If they are to be another Mike Ashley and happy with plodding along midtable so long as PL survival is guaranteed I think Martinez's job will be safe. But if the owners are ambitious and want us around those top 6 places then I think under current performances the manager will be out the door.

I fully agree with all that. We're not far off a very competitive team, but the defence needs discipline and organisation. The first act is to replace the GK with Robles. Minimum. Not ideal, but better. No doubt it'll take until summer 2016 to finally get Howard out and a decent first team GK in. By that time we'll also need to sort out a dominant CB too.

Martinez has time though. I'm pretty sure about that. As long as there's no repeat of last season's slide there's simply going to be no appetite to replace him. He's got five year deal that he'll see out at the very least.

Dave, Howard's contract does it not run until 2017 or 2018?

Not sure if it has been posted but phil mcnulty tweeted this yesterday :

Roberto Martinez, meanwhile, is in danger of turning Everton into an upmarket version of the side he produced at Wigan Athletic.
But Davek said that he is building something special here. Surely Davek knows more about football than the Chief Sports writer at the BBC?

Is that not what the current lot are happy doing?

I wouldn'y, for the price you pay, I want to see good football. There has to be a balance, if we were playing 1-0 wins/losses every week playing ultra defensive football, barely creating any chances, you would be happy with that? Sorry, but I don't believe you.
I would for a couple of seasons anyway!I bet the majority of us 50+ year olds would as well.
