Halfway point of the season

Just getting back to the point of the thread: the data does suggest a very bang average sort of points/position to our season so far: not great, not poor by our historic standards. What I would contest though is that the performances have been well above what we've seen in the past decade and that has to be seen as the basis for projecting what will or can happen at the end of the season.

Basically the data also shows that in our points/position we can take a comfortable top half of the table spot by season's end. In four of the ten season's we're either just below or just above the halfway totals of seasons where we went on to finish top 7 or even top 5. So it's all to play for. As others have pointed out, that's going to need a defensive rethink and maybe a move into the transfer market.
Just give it a bloody rest, won't you?

We don't want Top 10 finishes. That is what Phil Neville suggested and there was uproar.

You're so far up Martinez arse that you can no longer backtrack.

How does that follow from what I said?

If I choose to highlight the former it's because I'm a fan and support the manager's overall aims.

So what others who choose to highlight the negative because we are fans and are deeply concerned at the Club's current direction?

Are we just forum whingers?

You'd been ripped apart on here mate, sorry to see you have a meltdown.

Poor form dear chap. No Europa League quote.

The halfway point is still near to finishing in a Europa League spot (still looking forward to the quote) and in a semi final against a team that has only kept 3 cleans sheets since September.

What I would like to see is Deulofeu and Barkley given a completely free reign to go anywhere and get the ball and for another midfielder to come in and make a 3 in midfield. I would get Besic in as he has the legs and quickness to get forward and support the attack. I think it was the system we started with against Chelsea.

Plenty of time to turn it around and push for European places.

Unfortunately, I've yet to see any evidence that's going to happen.

Good window and getting back some key injured players and hopefully that'll change.

I'm very frustrated so far, we should be higher up the league, no doubt about that. Some of it is bad luck, with injuries to players in key positions, some terrible refereeing decisions have cost us and some poor defending. I would hope the return of jags will help either mori or stones and i would like to see robles given a go. Still a long way to go but we have to get it right soon.

Unfortunately, having been soundly thrashed this afternoon, your views are a touch hollow.

Oh dear.

halfway point to the season and it's clear that we've got a good set of players but won't ever have a good enough defence to achieve our full potential under this manager

i expect 8th sadly.Could well get to a cup final though which is boss

I don't even think we look terrible defensively during a game, don't know if that's just me, but it just seems to be silly silly moments by individuals that cost us. Howard every game, Mori v Leicester, Stones today twice. I mean structurally I don't think we're ever dreadful at the back, but we concede. We're just a bit soft really, and having a keeper who really can't bail us out does us no help whatsoever.

You're right to an extent, but inexperience results in our centre halves being moved around by forwards to positions they shouldn't be in (oo err). The frustrating thing for me is all of our individual errors happen when we're defending which invariably leads to at least a good chance. The only mistake barry made yesterday was miscontrolling it just in our half which led to the penalty.
