Tim Howard

I'm not defending the idea that we need a new keeper but getting on his back week in week out is not going to solve anything. The back line as a whole have been woeful all season and to just point the finger at Howard is not going to solve that problem either.
Howard is the senior professional in the defence at the moment. Coleman, as the other senior player in there has been getting grief as well. It should be Howard who is taking command and organising an inexperienced backline, but that isn't happening.

Of course they all contributed to our downfall today as did howard. But this is not based on today. This is 18 months coming to a head. There's literally no logical argument in his defense. So what he played well v spurs. Well done he got us a point. Well he cocked up v city, arsenal, liverpool, united, bournemouth, and countless others.

In fact I personally was done with him when he cost us the game at chelsea in martinez's first season by bottling out of a challenge with terry in the last minute. He's been poor for years. I actually backed him for years while some of my mates thought I was mad. And I now think they were right.

I was just trying to prove that he has had as many good games as bad in his time. My argument is based on today, as I think I have said in a few posts we do need a new keeper, yes. He is coming to the end of his shelf-life. But to blame him solely for any defeat, even if he isn't to blame e.g today, is pointless and wrong. He is a cog in the defence, a key cog, but to think that he is the only problem is naive. And further to blame him for every defeat irrespective of his responsibility solves nothing.

funes mori has played argnetina and river plate, coleman has played forever for us and stones is a full england international now... Not many are that inexperienced any more except Galloway. They are all equally responsible.

He 100% loses us more points on a individual basis than what he wins us. I blame martinez as much as howard himself. The reason it has come to a head today is because he was taking the piss out of fans and giving stick to kids.

it is a hard one, on the one hand you want professionalism but at the same time how would you feel being shouted at, abused and taken the mick out of week in week out... irrespective of whether or not you were at fault
Sorry if you are giving goals away for fun like Tim he is not just upsetting the fans it's our defence too!
That last goal Stones had no faith in our keeper , and it was the keepers ball he's a big COWARD!

For me its the lack of confidence he instills to our young back 4 (need jags back asap) due to the downfall over the last 18 months. I mean today its a bit harsh to blame too much on him when the second goal there was just nothing you could do about and that cross came in super fast for the 3rd but he needs replacing january, Begovic anyone??

We can agree to disagree on the first point as I cant be bothered to trawl through his career on a game by game basis!
Yes, Martinez is more to blame in my opinion, not just for howard but for his ability to know how to see out games. When we were 3-2 up today we were passing it about the park as if we were 6-0 up, the whole team was spread about and naismith almost cost us when he passed it back to Howard. He shouldn't have given stick.

He was massively at fault for our second goal, He's off his line when he shouldn't be and glued to it when you need him to take command. The third was a difficult one to deal with but a good keeper does deal with it.

With the shaqiri one, there's no way you should ever be lobbed from there. His positioning is dire

just watched it again on MOTD. Arnoutavic ran past stones as if he wasnt there from the edge of the area... But no one blames our wonder kid Stones - he had a woeful day today and that isn't Howard's fault.

Things wrong with Howard:

Doesn't come for crosses in and around the 6 yard box.

Slows the play down, he'll take an age then release the ball to the player he should have when he first got hold of it.

His kicking is terrible.

He doesn't command his area the defenders are terrified to let anything run through to him.

He saves maybe 1 shot in every 3 at him (This has been 1 shot in every 5/6 recently).

When the opposition get a penalty the ref might as well just give them a goal to save a bit of time.

As poor as the defence have been and they have also rightly been criticised lately, he has had all the above wrong with him for the last 2 seasons. We would be a much better team without him!
