We are underperforming this season, as are liverpool, chelsea and utd. Leicester, Palace and Watford are in turn, so far, over performing.

I think everyone can agree with that.

But I think everyone can also agree that we are not spending the money for a title charge. Ian seemed to be saying that our budget, not our team, our budget was such that we should be performing better. And I disagreed.
The bottom line here is not about under performing or over performing its about PERFORMING no matter what you cost or how much you are worth

You're mistaking 'excellent football' for 'excellent attacking football'....defensively we are a bit of a car crash, and in modern football I believe the view is that all players have defensive responsibilities....ergo, the players must share some of the blame.

I'm just going to stick with blaming the manager who hasn't got a clue on how to set a team up to defend.

You keep blaming the young kid at centre half and inexperienced Argentine settling into his first year in English football though.

Didn't start out as poor for us, doesn't look poor for England. He was dominant in the air when he first joined and good positionally. Now he's absolutely all over the shop. I'm more inclined to believe that he'as part of a unit with no idea of what they're doing rather than a bad player.

Your last sentence seems spot on to me. Blaming stones is bordering on insantiy. Similar to claiming the ref or the penalty were what cost us the game. I wonder how it feels being someone like Rom, knowing that even three goals at home to stoke wont be enough to win a game.

To be honest the recurring frailties for me can be traced back to the first couple of games last season, twice ahead against newly promoted Leicester we conceded the first equaliser straight from the Kick off, then collapsed with five minutes to go,the week after cruising 2-0 up v Arsenal with seven minutes to go and we end up "hanging on" for a draw, there are countless other games in between when we have "switched off",lack concentration at vital times in games(Sunderland at home?yeah we ended up with the result but how did the game get to 2-2 in the space of about 3 playing minutes?),allied to the Bournemouth debacle,Norwich and today 3-2 up with ten to go you have to say there is a massive problem which the management have not or do not appear to have addressed in this two year period.

"to at least see out his project."

WTF does that mean? Management speak is the bloody devil.
lol Well he clearly has a plan which at a club like ours that does not have unlimited money takes more time as we cannot go out and overhaul the squad every year. Last year we were boring everyone to tears and he has clearly addressed that, added some pacey wingers, tweaked the system and got us playing exciting football and scoring plenty of goals, proving he can adapt us. Let's see if he can sort out the defence this time and if not then it's time to get shut but to do it now makes no sense to me.

He was exactly the same at wigan and has form for his defensive weakness.
Its just getting worse now its been highlighted and teams are coming for us and as for playing flappy in goal he needs his bumps feeling
