Player Valuation: £80m
i really disagree with that statement. west ham at full strength is probably better as well. palace have a lot of solid good players and cabaye is better than anything that they have on their books. Stoke's players like shawcross, bojan, shaqiri and affelay are defeinitely better than liverpool's equivalents. their delusion is what restricts them a lot.
They are slowly starting to realise that they buy flavour of the month players from average teams. Once they got to Liverpool and leave their familiar surroundings they resort back to their natural ability.
Benteke is a lad who's never scored 15+ league goals in consecutive seasons. Lallana is no better than Tadic (form Southampton). Lovren wouldn't get into Southamptons team. Can is too inconsistent. Lucas has always been a very poor mans Mascherano/Alonso.
Benitez paid big money but for very good players. He was well and truly "ahead of the trend" in getting them though. They use numbers to recruit now, and the problem with that, is that the players has already displayed the skills required and is probably approaching their peek. A knowledge of numbers will never be able to replace a knack of being able to see a good player. Take Coleman, had we have waited two years to get 2 years worth of data on him, he'd have got us probably 200 times more. Sometimes you just have to take a punt based on instinct.
The crux of it for them now though is they have a committee full of baseball enthusiasts who couldn't pick a player to save their life.
