Tim Howard

Tbh, it's not really about yesterday, he's been doing my head in for a while now.

However, I'm not one for bashing our players, especially one who has been here so long, as I don't believe they cock up on purpose, and keepers mistakes are always magnified too.

With that in mind, I'll just reiterate that I think we should get rid in the summer, and leave this thread alone.
No drop him now see how Robles can cope with our allegedly shocking defence!

I think most of us are very frustrated with the goalkeeping situation. To be fair to Tim Howard it's not his fault, he's just got to that point where he's no longer good enough, the main problem here is the manager who won't drop him or sign a replacement.

There's no agenda or false quoting. You want Howard to be like De Gea.

Well there's very few goalkeepers like De Gea and the few who are cost huge money and want CL football and won't be coming to Everton. Therefore you'll always be disappointed and have a moan about our goalkeeper.

I simply stated an example of De Gea's play, not De Gea as a general keeper.

There's no need for a substantial sum for a keeper who won't cost us in excess of 10 points.

Spot on Robles is only an unknown quantity because RM defiance to chose Tim - what we would cry for now is a clean sheet Robles has proven he can do this yet he is dropped your right RM has to DROP HIM!
If Robles is worse then we then know we need a top Keeper if he is more than ok as he performed last season then we need a back up keeper in January or after being dropped Tim may work on his game drop his arrogance and perform better!

Reading this Arsenal article makes me sad.

Cech has become everything Arsenal hoped he would be, a combination of excellence and influence. His team-mates admire him, trust him, listen to him and play with more confidence just because he is there.

The back four, in particular, are tangibly more relaxed and there is less of that feeling of an accident waiting to be exploited somewhere. Arsenal’s outfield players have not shown such palpable faith in the man behind them since the days of David Seaman in his pomp.

Wenger rates the impact of the goalkeeper that highly. “Petr Cech, he has done it all. So he is someone who gives you an aura, a charisma, that is always important in the big games for the players. You always look around you in the dressing room before a big game and think: ‘Are we strong enough?’ And these kind of aces help you to believe it.

There is no history of teams winning things without having a great goalkeeper. I’m now 30 years in the job and you learn over the years that the goalkeeper is the most underrated position in football – and maybe the most vital one for winning things. You will always have the striker better paid than the goalkeeper but you don’t know: are they more important than the goalkeeper?”

So might it be even more imperative for a team with a big emphasis on attacking to have a strong keeper? “Exactly,” replies Wenger.

I mean in terms of not having a heart attack thinking about the Coward behind them.

Mori was clearly taking on for the team yesterday.
It's amazing how even when people here can't actually figure out what Howard might have specifically done wrong for a goal, they still figure out a way to blame him.

So you're saying Funes Mori dragged Okazaki down in the penalty area because he was worried about his goalkeeper? How does that make any sense at all?

Couldn't agree more, here's Brian Clough making the same point: “Shilton was the deciding factor. I’d have paid almost any price. A team with an OK goalkeeper is always looking over its shoulder. At the back of its mind, it’s thinking ‘it doesn’t matter what we do – the fella between the posts might make a mistake’. With Shilton in goal, it gave everyone else more confidence. It spread throughout the side. We were full of ourselves.”

Martinez's biggest failing is not addressing this issue.
