Is our style backfiring?

Can Martinez fix our defence to allow his style to be a success?

The way we play is definitely opening up the games more, but as previously mentioned if we just scored a couple of these tap ins we create we'd be fine.

Martinez needs a plan B, not some defensive rut inviting them to attack us forever, or tika taka mistake countdown game - but something we can use in the second half of a game to nullify threats for a portion of the match and allow us to play off the counter or something. Something visibly different with our formation or holding play to stop putting ourselves into sketchy situations.

Having a team that can't finish simple chances plus a keeper that can't make simple saves means we're not getting the wins we should be getting.

We were sussed out last season at spurts. We visibly wilted when they pressed us, and that was the season over because everyone got onto it.

While we're not losing as many this season, it's plain as the nose on your face that we're too easily sussed. My fear is, is that it won't be long before they cotton onto our game from the kick-off.

Then we're in schiesse-strasse.

We are already doing plenty of shooting but we are scheisse at defending !!

Big difference in German where you place the i and the e !!

Personally, I just think we've been unlucky so far. We've hit the post and missed some open nets far more than you'd expect. It won't take too many of those falling right to convert draws to wins.

Put it this way: we've got 8 draws so far. That's an insanely high number, and no Premier League club in recent memory has ever drawn half their league matches, especially not when they play as open as we do. That number's bound to come down, and based on how those draws went, I'd say it's far more likely that they're more likely to come out as wins than losses.

I think if this post doesn't qualify, then nothing else will :p

That`s the most half full glass i`ve read yet.

We need a new keeper who will come out at corners and this will help us right away plus our next midfielder we buy needs to have some height and also can p!ay good football and also head. Yarm is over 6 ft.

I do get what you're saying but I think on occasion we're guilty of looking at things through blue tinted glasses.

I work with a palace fan and his take on Mondays game was that we played fantastic football but they had 3-4 good chances and a cast iron pen not given. He thought it would have been very disappointing to have come away with nothing, and that they actually looked the more threatening in the last 5-10 minutes. I found it difficult to disagree.

fully behind him, he needs to get that commanding keeper in though otherwise i'll turn, because there's a massive blind faith in howard. Our attacking play is breathtaking at times and we have goals and assists around the park. Being able to afford a top upgrade from kone and a brilliant keeper would see us right up there, i would fail to see too many weaknesses in our squad if that happened.

I don't think we are too far off being a team who can perform and win consistently. We've certainly improved in our offensive abilities this season.

My issue is that why hasn't the issue been resolved yet, when it has clearly been an issue for the fans for such a period. Does Martinez not see it?

Or does he simply think it will be fix itself over time? Is it that apparent trait of stubborn again which we saw so often last season? I don't know.

Yes we're not finishing games off, which is an issue in itself, but personally I think that comes from our own defensive frailties. That's the catalyst.

Should we have scored earlier against Palace? Yes. Should we have turned Norwich over in the first half and finished the game? Again yes.

But in each game now it is a huge concern (well it's almost certain) that we'll concede. That negates our offensive capabilities.

We almost know as fans that we need to score more than once to win a game, so I wouldn't be surprised if the players feel the same.

I was brought up on the fact that if you don't concede, you don't lose a game. It isn't hard. Some effort at improving the back and we'd be fine.

Martinez seems unable, or unwilling, to address this though as we keep making the same mistakes in selection, not pressing and defending corners.

What does it matter if Rom, Delboy and Barkley are playing exceptional football if we're still only drawing against the likes of Norwich et al?
