Roberto Martinez discussion

We have a young, almost raw team that is very exciting and with that in mind, I could accept dropped points through naivety to some extent, but to drop points in 3 games in a row in the exact same way is not acceptable.

The key for me is the wasted opportunity. Not only would we be sitting in 4th right now had we not spectacularly blown the last 3 games, but we'd be on an absolute roll, our team morale would be massive and would probably be playing even better football because of that. And it is all down to very basic stuff that shouldn't even be a consideration at this level - we can't defend corners and we repeatedly show complacency.

Today is the first time I've properly criticised Martinez because I find our inability to learn from our mistakes absolutely shocking and I hold him responsible for that.

Dear Lord. You actually think this team is mediocre?

That's about the worst appraisal of any football team I've ever seen. It's staggering.

What have they ever done that hasn't been mediocre? You continue to confuse individual player ability with the effectiveness of the team. Individually this side is more talented than most in the league. Collectively though it's performing as the tenth best. Why is that? Because collectively our defence is mediocre, our fitness is poor, our keeper is terrible, and we don't score goals from a midfield who struggle to put in a 90 minute performance. So you can keep going on about how these players are the best in 30 years but currently the team performances are not reflecting that.

What I see is 4 world class players carrying a lower midtable ensemble who have no comprehension of how to defend. The team construct itself is mediocre regardless of how much personally you enjoy watching the attacking passing.

Not at all. We're building toward a special team. This is good but can and will get better.

How about exercising a bit of patience with what are obviously the best players and manager we've had for decades?

Not much to ask for like is it?

I am reasonably ok about stuff. Not seen the match, but listened to the 1st half, and we were epic.

This "2 Half" sydrome is really odd, and annoying, but nothing more than that. Some tweeks, some changes in luck/finishing, and the annoying things can go, leaving us the ace things.

Said last year when it was bewildering that it is dead easier to fix a side that concedes too many/easily than it is to correct one that cant score.
Conceded two in the last two league games mate. Converting is what's dogged us in the last week at least.

To use your word, we have been epic at times this season and sit within reach of the top four (which apparently were meant to get with ease!) and are in the LC SF.

I just don't get some people. I'd be worried for myself if I seen what was going on at Everton and complained bitterly about it. It's almost incomprehensible to me. Even Martinez's critics are conceding this is the best we've been as a football team for over 20 years. Still it's not enough for some.

devek the team has to get results and achieve a top 4-6th finish. This is the third season and we can't finish in midtable again.

I think after the Spurs game we will have a clear picture as to where we will finish this season. Hopefully we will pick up a couple of win starting from next week.

5 in the last 3! It is football. That Bournemouth comeback was one of them dead stupid things that happen from time to time. See what happened to Swansea today for an example.

There is hope and a future in this unit, no doubt in my mind. Folk having a Porterhouse Blue because Watford are a point better off do my nut.

Modern football waits for no man. Sadly even if the board stick with him, the players will have ambition to play at a higher level. I fear if we achieve nothing this season we might miss the boat completely and at least one of our most important players will leave.

this team is essentially Deulofeu - Lukaku with a load of average/poor performers in between - particularly in defence.

I've said it before I'll say it again I'll give Martinez no credit for the Deulofeu - Lukaku connection. Hardly takes a genius to put the two on the pitch.
