Roberto Martinez discussion

Haha, what? Naismith didn't come on and Gibson actually injected us with a bit of solidity.

That's not the point mate. Bringing on that quality of sub just isn't what top four clubs do. It was like last year in the UEFA cup, we were seriously struggling against a Dynamo Kiev side and we had Kone and Osman to come to rescue us off the bench. Gibson and Naismith are players that aren't good enough to cement a regular place in what is actually a mid-table team at full strength.

My view ?
We're doing OK, playing great footie for a lot of the time, in with a shout of getting to Wembley.
We're likely to be eighth to tenth after the weekend's matches, which is a bit below where I'd have we'd be. We need to improve in a few areas though otherwise we won't be in with a shout of qualifying for Europe based on our league position. As a fan, if that happens but we win a cup, I'd be happy with that, but that might not match the ambition of some of our squad.

Pretty much what I've said. I don't believe we'll lose players though if we get 8th rather than say 5th. There's no chance of CL qualification. It's a very slim one if there is. These players are on board with Martinez's plans. They'll all stay unless a daft £80M bid comes in for one.

Without their blue tinted specs on, very, very few people really believe that.
The reality is we're top six contenders, and that's what Martinez should be measured against.

Yes top 6 is minimum requirement.

Winning the last three games will put us on course.

At this rate, we will finish in the 11th position again.

5 league wins is nowhere near good enough with these players.
He is managing better than last season but not as well as his 1st season and thats a worry

Should we even be top 6 contenders based on how last season went?

(We are obviously I'm just asking the question).

Yes, yes we should.
If we're not in the mix for sixth place with three or four games left in the season, then we'll have underachieved.

I'm assuming it'll go down to sixth because of a CL side winning the FA Cup.

You dont get to the top of the table with less than 11 top quality players in a squad.

hugely frustrating

we have a striker scoring every week just like the team at the top of the league.

We have a player who is racking up the assists just like 40 million pound ozil.

We have a defender who is as good as anyone now and was wanted by the reigning champions as a prime target.

and we are mid table.........

I'm remaining positive but it's getting harder to do so.

Think they care about Europa League position are they. Still euro...

No, but it was never going to be.

I expected closer to his first season.

Yes. We under performed last season, if we do so again this season you have to wonder...
He's been here two and half seasons and has constructed the best team in two decades. Not much to wonder about there unless he totally wastes it by slumping to a sub 8th place finish for the next two seasons.

Lets be patient with this feller. He's obviously a man with a plan that looks to be going very well. It's fractions off at the moment. We're in the best position we've been for years and years with this man in charge. It's unthinkable he could be refused the chance to see his efforts through.
