Roberto Martinez discussion

I'm @GrandOldTeam88 on it.

Back on topic.

Martinez though. Have we ever been so poor as a club at attacking and defending corners?

That's because Barca don't like corners that is.

Cahill and Jelavic (sometimes) attacked the ball and headed them away. Our current players don't jump at all when they are defending.

Our defence is poor, they can't deal with crosses and corners, so we are always likely to concede in a game of 90 minutes. The team isn't as good as some people think it is, the mid-table finish will be what the team deserves. If you are going to talk about the team being in development, then you need to accept that there are things that need improving and that the current crop of Kone, Cleverley, Barry etc aren't good enough. The unfortunate reality is that the team needs a considerable amount of further investment just to be able to keep hold of the big names we do have. Without the investment, the mid-table finishes will continue.
But Cleverley was MoM apparently. I've watched a different game.

8 games unbeaten. 6th in the PL, SF of the LC, playing the best football around and the best we've played since HK MkI.

Where's the razor blades, I cant cope with this. Goodbye cruel world.
How many draws?, how many winning positions we lost in games to draw or lose?, how many goals conceded from corners?

The answer to all them is most of any team in the league this season, 15 games, won 5, 7 goals conceded from corners.

There is a lot right and a hell of a lot wrong, and the wrong is not being addressed or improved.

Martinez has won 31.5% of his last 54 games in the league, Garry Monk got sacked with 35%.

Been astounding just how much @GrandOldTeam has lost his game. If this was five years ago he'd have multi quoted the living hell out of anyone against him and took corners.

But he's defo took slaps. He needs to move back into the ghetto from the middle suburbia they called Twitter. He needs to get street smart again.

We've been cack on taking corners for ages, it's not a new thing under Martinez.
As for defending, no, we're p poor.

See, I don't think we are. Our defence play well but I can certainly see why the setpiece thing is driving people crazy. Regardless, I enjoy watching Everton play right now, irrespective of the disappointment of a few more dropped points.

I wonder if we were 6-0 up at half time and knocked in a couple more 2nd half for good measure how this forum would have looked.

Have people here expecting or demanding champions league with Kone and Howard as 1st choices...no competition for Lukaku.

Others crying about mirallaa not getting a game then his mcgeady performance today.

Such impatience when its so clear to me that a bit more time and rebuilding and were almost there.
Honest to God mate, when you look at it it's spectacular entitlement behaviour that we hate "that lot" for.

We were away to another PL club FFS, we leathered them in the first half and ran out of ideas second half. We're handily placed in the PL, still in both cups, and playing the best we have for decades.

The doom and gloom - how on earth can people feel doom and gloom?

Ha Ha.

Seriously though, you might be pissed off right now and frustrated but you surely see the massive progress being made here with this squad and the quality we play with?

We're putting the hard yards in now and trying to win while Martinez is laying down the template that will dictate our style for years to come.

Even now this season we've achieved targets. There's no question about that.

I saw the potential last season when most wanted him out.

I hoped for more this season. Admittedly, I had big expectations. We've let ourselves down time and time again and the consistency we needed to build, hasn't happened.

There is a fragility in Everton's 'DNA'...I do not see this changing any time soon. But for 45 minutes a game, we play very attractive football and I guess we will all just have to be content with that.

Cahill and Jelavic (sometimes) attacked the ball and headed them away. Our current players don't jump at all when they are defending.

This is a good point.

Seems a lot of our current lot don't want to do the dirty work and put their head in where it can hurt.

We've conceded more headed goals than any other team in the league, that's not a coincidence.

lol at that stupid stat.

He's won 0% of his last three games. Martinez out!

Not arsed any more, at least we're playing nice football. Plus there's always the fact that Martinez seems to do alright in the transfer market so time and money should improve our squad, no matter what happens. I'll look at the league table at the end of the season.
