Big Shout for Brendan...

I concede to those who have seen him play at MK Dons and in the U21s more than I have, but I just don't see this 'he's a natural CB playing LB' thing people keep going on about.

He's bundles of energy, athletic, quick, likes to get forward (with varying success), good one-on-one in the main (although understandably Moses caused him problems).

I look at Stones comparatively and see a CB, even when he has played RB.

As I say though, happy to be lambasted. I just don't think he's more a CB than he is a LB with his apparent skill-set.

The (near) return of Leighton has set me thinking about Brendan G and what he's already achieved this season.

Just a week after Bournemouth no-one is going to be claiming the defence is faultless. But given the wholesale disruption that the defence has had to cope with since season start, I'd say the general lack of wailing about our defences performances speaks for itself. Some very young (or new) players have stepped up admirably and for my money Brendan's contibution is right up there.

In ideal world I'd like to think that there could be some kind of supporter led recognition for the lad at a home game. I'm sure some would call me a misty eyed romantic who doesn't go to enough games to know how these things work - just to save time you're right on both counts - but (in my ideal world) I'd like to think we could do this.

What dya reckon?

Already been done mate.

Brendan's got his own song now courtesy of @Mikey_Fitzgerald . When the crowd are singing your name, you know you've arrived.

He's shown he's already a reliable first team player, which is all you could have asked for really.

I do think his future is at centre-back, but he could probably do with filling out a bit before being thrown in there at Premier League level.

He'll end up as a CB just needs to bulk up a touch.

It'll be a waste to try and turn him into a Lb full time he wont reach the level he can as he could in his natural position

Fair enough.

But what is it that you see in his game that makes you so sure he's a CB?

Genuine Q btw as i said before, I may be missing it.

I hope and pray every day that we keep JS and him for many years to come. The boy is a class act. Massively impressed with both his attitude and quality.

onwards and upwards young man...

But WHY do you think this lads?

Will someone please tell me so I can shut up!

More what i see in his full back game, he gets in some fantastic attacking positions but runs out of ideas and looks a bit lost, lacks the link up of a natural full back, so as good as hes done and can do there dont think it should be something long term.

Plus Ive seen him a few times at CB for england and he looks much more at home just needs to bulk up slightly. But his positioning was spot on defensively and in possession and has the pace you want, not quite as good as stones bringing the ball out but then again few are

Boom, cheers Sagey

Because his distribution is decent but doesn't really show signs of developing into anything like what you get from a Baines or Coleman.

However, he's quick, very aggressive and solid in the challenge, so I'd say it makes sense to think he'll be a better centre-back once he gets a bit heavier.
