Tim Howard

Dougie - Howard had nothing to do yesterday. The one back pass from Mori that was under hit saw him charge out like a man possessed. On another occasion that could easily have been a red card. He had no composure there at all.

All this talk of racism is absolutely ridiculous.

Howard joined us as a half decent Premier League goalkeeper. I didn't mind at all he joined us from United's reserves. At that point they were a long way ahead of us.

Last season and so far this year he's seriously regressed. His inability to challenge for the high ball is inexcusable. We are now strong all over the park save for between the sticks.

Add to that his recent media profile and you can see why a lot of fans have turned against him.

A clean sheet against Villa means nothing. Martinez needs to do something in January and the sooner he makes a decision on Howard and Robles the better.

I'm sure if a move was arranged sensibly he could go across to the MLS as a big name

Charles the reason we are strong as a squad is because we have prioritised weak areas, it's simple yet effective good housekeeping for a club of limited resources like ours. Moyes did it well and now Martinez is seemingly carrying it on.

The next stage starts in the summer, there'll be no major signings in January, but I'm sure the further development of the squad will begin with recruitment in the goalkeeping position. Howard's age and Robles lack of abilty dictates it.

He might not be as good as De Gea anymore but he's certainly worth a spot at Everton till the end of the season in his current form. If we are able to keep the wolves from the door I predict our next major incoming player will be the impregnable goalkeeper you and others crave.

This is the key. If we had gone out and bought Butland for £20 million this summer, we would either have sold Stones or not bought Funes Mori, Deulofeu, and Lennon. I freely admit that Butland is a better keeper than Howard, but I don't think the club would be better off overall in that scenario. We have limited funds, and squeezing another season out of Howard is the best use of those funds at the moment.

Just take that joined up logical thinking and bugger off will you..

I'm at a complete loss on this one. Howard's quick reactions and aggression right there saved the goal. If you're going to criticize a clearly good play on Howard's part, I'll have a hard time taking any of your criticism seriously.

Didn't we put in a massive bid for Yaramelenko. Surely and laterally we could have went for a keeper with some of the funds, given there is a record breaking TV deal coming on stream in the summer.

The rumors about Yarmolenko were all before we signed Funes Mori and Lennon, and were probably predicated in part on selling Stones. I think it's safe to say that money doesn't exist, and I really doubt our board would be spending money now based on money we're going to get next season.

Is there an Everton player you do like?

Yes!

I think Baines and Coleman are the two best full backs in the league. I think Jags has been a very good player for us and always gives his all. I think Stones is peerless and Mori is a great acquisition.

In Midfield I like Barry and McCarthy and think Claverley is sorely under rated. I'm a fan of Gibson, Naismith and Osman as well.

On the wings I think Del is a potential world star whilst Lennon is a decent squad player. I think McGeady has been given a very rough deal and like Mirallas should be moved on in January if possible.

Up front I think Lukaku is immense and keeps improving.

Howard has never been in De Gea's league.

Last summer Valdes or Begovic could have been had for sub £10m. Both would have been many leaves ahead of Howard.

It wasn't a good play. It was effective but I don't think many coaches would advocate such a reckless challenge. His body was out of control.

Oh is it now? Like Lukaku's workrate yeah? Take it somewhere else, Charlie.

You can stop that now. I think Lukaku is one of the best in the world for his age and the one player I would hold dearest not to sell.

Thinking Howard needs replacing isn't racism. It's realism. I can't really see how those two words can be confused.

Rushing in as hard as he could Howard only barely got there in time to cut off the attacker. If Howard didn't do that, the player would have had control of the ball one-on-one against the keeper. The chances of making a save in that situation is slim.

You seem to be arguing that Howard might have gotten called for a penalty if he didn't get that challenge completely right. But he did get it right. That means it was a very good play. It's a bit silly to criticize the guy for something that didn't happen.

Did well on Saturday didn't he?
That charge out was indisputably good goal keeping. Also you've seen many a good goal keeper beaten by that sort of Richardson shot, thinking it's curling right before it checks left, leaving you flat footed and off balance.
Build on it Tim.

It's pretty clear that Valdes was not available, at least for another Premier League team. Van Gaal has actually come out and said that. As for Begovic, he's been terrible this season, by no stretch of the imagination "many leaves ahead of Howard". I shudder to think how much worse we'd be this season with Begovic in goal and no Funes Mori (who we would not have been able to afford if we bought Begovic).
