Ship sunk by Bahamas hurricane

Sad to read that. Not a pleasant ending for those who perished.

It's all the more puzzling when you consider how accurately we can plot hurricanes that a ship sailed into it.
Ships owners state that the crew were equipped to handle situations such as changing weather : if it wasn't so tragic you'd have to laugh. Wonder perchance what the moral imperative of the owners was ? Filthy lucre or workers' safety : doesn't take a genius to work that one out.

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walkedst on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

That hurricane intensified quickly ...in about a day and a half it went from a topical storm to a Cat 4. They may have been caught off guard as I don't believe it was forecast to that.

I saw the weather forecast for the week on Sunday (BBC) and they said it was then a hurricane.

It did intensify quickly but it's general track remained the same and I think was projected to be a 2, you wouldn't sail willingly into even a cat 1.

Agree you want to swerve it regardless. Just suggesting the rapid intensification could of contributed to them misjudging it or even how far out serious effects would be felt.

No clue what BBC said. I just know, it didn't have hurricane force winds until Sept 30 according to NOAA. There were hurricane watches/warnings out prior to that as it was predicted to develop into a full hurricane.
