Everton Youth Teams Thread

Kenny and Connolly named in England U19 squad, no Ledson, Dowell presumably still injured , not sure what's happened to Liam Walsh who was a fringe member U18 last season.
Russell Griffiths ( apparently back on loan at Colwyn Bay) and Mason Holgate in u20s squad.
We have nobody in the current U16 or 17 squads which seems unusual given our U18s good start to the season.
Edit: LL types faster than me !
The lack of representation in the U16s and U17s is very odd.

They're a league higher than Northwich Victoria where he was on loan until recently, which is a good sign.

To be honest not really. Those two age groups have never been as highly thought about. The amount of players we had playing for England was very unusual. I can only see Evans being the player who I'm surprised he's not in.

Having said that, I think Lees has a lot of potential!

Is Evans injured at the minute? Hasn't been involved with any of the teams in recent weeks

Just seen he came off the bench on Saturday actually and was sent off

I was getting confused with Connor Hunt who was at Colwyn Bay earlier on. I must have missed it but it seems Griffiths went there last week and has played at least two games , including last night. Seems the manager at North Vics recommended him when asked saying that most of the 5 clean sheets he kept in 7 games were purely down to him. Sounds like a promising GK we have. But even at 19 he needs to be moving up the leagues a bit , I would say at least two divisions up to Conference/National League level in the next 12 months.

I like Connolly, he sums up the kind of player we are good at producing and developing in this age group. He can score goals playing at left back or left midfield and looked quite comfortable in a back 3 in the 2nd half against Liverpool. He's like a left sided Kenny , but a bit taller. Not sure what his best position will be, probably left back, hope to see him do well for Englandu19s in October.

Yes absolutely. He has always been very highly thought of and a very versatile player, I've seen him in midfield and play all across the back four. He never gets the same mentions as Kenny/Ledson but the lad has really progressed over the last 12 months.

As you say he is taller than Kenny, got a good spring and is very comfortable on the ball. Seems like he relishes the battle too. In the mini derby I was very impressed with him as an outside centre-back. I think if we ever moved to a back 3 he would slot on there very well.

But yes we have produced a number of decent players of similar mould to Connolly, I am not quite sure what it is that is leading to us producing that type of player. Maybe it was the Moyes influence on the academy for the previous 10 years in outlining the type of player he wants?

Both of these lads have impressed me greatly in the several games I've seen them play this season. Hope all is well.

I think Walsh might be injured. As for Ledson there has been a fair bit of debate on here. The general view is they are "managing" him as he has played a lot of football.

Some seem to think he may have fallen out of favour a bit. I'm not sure on that. They seem to have a great rapport with him when I've seen them.

Was Evans I was primarily thinking about but isn't Antonee Robinson meant to be quite good as well?

Not sure if it was you who done reports on the u18's/ 21's ? i think so
if so do you not do them anymore? they were great. used to enjoy reading
how they were getting on.

There are a few options the Ledson situation could be down to

1) The club managing his game time as he has played a lot of the last couple of years, so Everton are just giving him abit of a rest and have asked the FA to not consider him for the squads at this moment in time
2) Martinez may be thinking about using him in the 2nd half of the season somewhere or even next season and wants to keep him fresh for then
3) He has a niggly injury that the club are trying to manage, could be anything from muscle to some sort of growth spurt, again the club may have let the FA aware and asked for him not to be considered
4) The lad may have a loan scheduled and the club want to keep him fresh so he can get as much game time as possible at his loan club
5) His form has dropped dramatically so the u21s/international selection have gone for other options
6) he's a bad melt, played for the first team and got a big head loves the lemo and his attitude stinks and he is going the same way as Michael Branch, Billy Kenny, John Paul Kissock and George Green

All options are possible even if some sound abit daft, they can range from he is not playing /getting selected for good reasons or bad reasons, interesting either way to see how it develops
