ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

The biggest nightmare is that FSG leave in the next few years and sell up to a City-type of buyer. It's game over if that happens.

One thing that could cut across that scenario is the PL losing a place in the CL. That could severely dent interest in LFC.

As for Rodgers: he's almost certainly gone right now. His successor will be getting lined up, but it wont be a top drawer manager for the reasons you outline. Monk? Maybe. But that sounds Rodgers-esque to me and one that wont go down well with the cult. I reckon a manager with CL experience but at a second tier Euro club like De Boer, Emery at Seville or even Villas Boas at Zenit.

I am not sure they care too much about the cult though. I think Kenwright basis a lot of his actions on trying to pander to Evertonians in a particular way. He wants to be loved and it pains him when he's not. I think FSG are hardnosed businessmen.

All of the above would fit their "model" perfectly though which makes them likely. Particularly De Boer who regularly has to sell his best players at Ajax and replace with younger players. He's also used to working under a Director of football. It would be a shrewd appointment for them.

I think it boils down to this.

He has been there for four years now. In that time have they improved?

he has built his team and had the cash to do so, is the starting 11 currently playing better than when he first arrived?

is the fact that spending huge amounts of money on players with no idea as to where they play a safe bet? remember their first 11 does not include markovic, llalana, firminho, ballotelli, Joe Allen in it. add their fees up alone!

has he brought positive change to the club in any way considering their league finishes in two out of three seasons?

TBH if they are going to sack Rodgers and they are looking to get out, it really makes no sense to appoint someone like de Boer (who as you say is probably someone who they consider as fitting their model).

Appointing Ancelotti would make more sense, and it a way it would make the club a lot more saleable (at least to the moneyed types who are the only ones who would pay what they want for the RS). It would also be much less of a gamble than Rodgers was, or de Boer would be, or even Klopp would be (one notes how Dortmund are suddenly boss again now he has left) - he has won too much for him to not be counted amongst the best coaches in the world. Also don't forget that he is used to the whole "players being bought by someone else" thing, having had to deal with that at Chelsea, at PSG and at Real Madrid; so the transfer committee isn't likely to upset him (indeed given their success rate of late, and his achievements, he would probably have the whip hand over them).

In short I would hate it if he went there, they would almost certainly win something and are guaranteed to be better than they are now.

Might as well show what happened. Just for context like, not that its hilarious to see.

It's important to 'like' this post every time it is posted. Quoting it too. Quoting it puts it on another page of GOT and increases the likelihood that I see it again. I might even start by liking my own post.

Edit: Disappointingly you cannot like your own post.

Gimp Beecroft on Talksport, the Merseyside area reporter that's definitely not RS but sounds about to come whenever he discusses them, reckons Lerner and Henry are thumbs down about him continuing. The UK elements of the board (the ones that don't count unfortunately) want him to stay. End of a great era approaching fast....

I'm not convinced by that at all. Ancelloti is used to working with work class players. They don't have any at Liverpool, he would be lost.

Is that the same Beecroft who, when asked for Merseyside updates on Transfer Deadline Day, seemed to think there was only one team in the city to report on (yeah, you got it - the one that did nil, nada, zippo business on the day)? That makes him a patronising pile of gobs***e in my eyes.
