3 at the back

Some folks have been talking about it in various transfer threads after we signed Funes Mori, so I thought I'd give it its own thread.

Now that we have 3 (supposedly, we'll see how the new lad does) solid central defenders, what about Everton playing all three of them. AT THE SAME TIME.

Obviously not against everybody, but if it's against sides that are going to boss our midfield anyway, might be worth a shot. And I think it'd suit our fullbacks' wingbacks' play style well, enabling them to get forward more.

Does anybody else in the Prem really do this? I don't watch enough English footie to really know. I know Costa Rica and the Dutch did it to great effect last summer in Brazil. There were a couple other sides that tournament that did, like Mexico.

Having 3 centre backs doesn't mean you should play off them. It's ok to have back up.

They are rightly 4th and 5th choice. They are also cover for the full back positions. Playing 3 at the back means there is no competition for places, which means performances will drop.

personally, no, but martinez has done it before and has said many times he wanted to do it with us

but we'll see, not for a while / only when we're closing out games
