Well, FWIW, my source is in here tonight, unexpectedly I must admit, so maybe we will get an informed opinion on this.

As an aside, he has tonight helped a blue on here make contact with an old mate in Kiev, who he hasnt spoken to in 15 years ffs!

Be fascinating to hear 1. his take on everything, 2. his thoughts about what will happen next etc, and 3. his opinion on the yarmolenkometre

But it's widely accepted that we'd agreed the buyout fee for Yarmolenko and the reason the transfer didn't happen was because of the owners preference to keep him on a whim. That and the fact we've signed Mori and Lennon shows the funds were available, it was Martinez's reluctance to change targets that have prevented us getting a playmaker not the board underfunding him.

The Stones saga had nothing to do with this.
Hold on, you cant have your cake and eat it too. You cant say that an audacious move for Yarmolenko was put into place by RM and accepted then say he's been useless in his pursuit of a playmaker. Not according to your take on the deal.

The manager what about the fans. Don't tell me Quintero wouldn't have preferred to come to us over Rennes. That was only a loan.

What do you know about Quintero? His attitude? The way he trains? Has he got any injuries which is why bigger clubs haven't bought? Does he want to move to rainy England? Is he poor with languages so doesn't fancy isolation in this country? What about his family?

You know diddly squat mate.

Yoann Gourcuff (French pronunciation: [jɔ.an ɡuʁ.kyf] or Breton: jo.an ɡuʁ.kỹw; born 11 July 1986) is a French international footballer who is currently a free agent. He last played for Lyon inLigue 1. He operates mainly as anattacking midfielder, but can also be utilized as a withdrawn striker and is described as a "playmaker of real quality" who "is an accomplished passer of the ball".[3][4] Gourcuff has been described by former French international David Ginola as the best French player of his generation.[5][6] His playing style and ability have drawn comparisons to French legend Zinedine Zidane.[7]

Just what we need.

Why haven't we signed a creative midfielder at all? That is the most crucial place we could have strengthen after the defence (maybe even more crucial since we have a lot of youngsters who can play at CB)

Disappointed we've missed out on a forward. In a lot of games in the last 12 months, our main problem has been a lack of support and service to Lukaku. Saturday was a good example of that.

The attacking positions needed strengthening this summer. Getting both Deulofeu and Lennon for £8-9m is fantastic, but still, they're unlikely to completely solve the problem. Barkley will probably continue at attacking midfield and unless he makes a huge improvement on last season's performance, may not deliver enough there for us to achieve anything of note in the league this year.

There are positives to take from the window, but I'm a bit concerned that management have allowed this to happen after prioritising the "number 10" position so much all summer. Martinez has to get these players performing to a much higher standard than last season as there's no excuse now for poor performance. The money was there to match the spending of the Stokes of this world and he has elected not to it seems.
