Kone's starting because Martinez seems to have some weird thing against Mirallas. He's easily fit enough now, he should be starting every game.

I reckon Kone's starting because if you want the option of going long from the back you need a target: someone good in the air, strong, shields the ball well and brings others in to play. Otherwise you lose possession too much and have to build from the back even when teams are pressing you there.
Rom and Ross aren't there yet and Kev and Del never will be.
