John Stones transfer saga

Apparently a few loons were harrassing him. A few other players were there. Kone had his photo taken with a fan. Naismith protected Stones and pulled him away. There's grainy video not showing much at all doing the rounds.

A nothing situation being made out to be something. Stones isn't going to stand there and start giving chapter and verse about the whole saga in a service station to some random fans late at night. There's no proof about the silly suggestion Stones was 'crying' either. People embellish stories for RTs/likes.
How do people still manage to shoot grainy video these days?!

It'd be sad (to me) if he did cop abuse, Gerrard got 100% backing from the fans after failing to leave for Chelsea. Admittedly we're not as deluded as them...
I may be wrong but didn't Gerrard chose to stay and made his decision public?
If Stones says nothing it looks like we are keeping him here against his desire. Different circumstance that will most probably get him abuse from the non deluded

I like him and feel sorry for him but at 40m with signings lined up, I'm wavering.

Nah. Both Bale and Suarez sales showed that having loads of money to spend isn't a guarantee you'll be better off.

Plus all the clubs we'd be buying from would put up their prices massively.

It's the whole principle of it at this point, it's not the money at all. We sell him now, we look absolute fools for being so strongly against it then wavering.

If they'd offered £40m for him on June 1st, my answer/opinion may well have been different.

But it's August 27th and we've had 6 weeks of Chelsea and the media arrogantly dismissing us. The credibility of the club's ambition and of the manager's resolve is at stake here now.

You are right in terms that very few have gone to law in such a way but ther view very much is that several very high profile players have given notice only to be talked down and most then get their sought after transfer

It's worth reading about the Webster ruling
It's a ridiculously high stakes gamble to make though.

Because while, yes, they can probably walk away as you're saying, they can't then continue their careers without the club releasing their registration - so if they did that massively against the wishes of the club, they could find themselves unable to play professional football for 4 years

Not too worried how it appears to the rags and general public, I like that Everton on the whole keep their dirty laundry inside the club. There's always gonna be whoppers like the guy calling him a rat, he's entitled to his opinion n all but it's so cringey.

The Webster ruling hasn't had any impact at all and the reason why is simple, as clubs are inserting clauses into players contracts that state if they unilaterally terminate the contract, then their market value will be deemed to be the harm suffered. Which renders it redundant if the player signs on those terms.
