John Stones transfer saga

It's not the same scenario though is it - football is a unique job. Comparing it to what I'd do at a 'firm' is a redundant point, given I don't have 35,000 people cheering me on at my job every weekend.
Sorry, I forgot football transcends rational thought. I just don't buy in to the idea that because we idolise them, they should be held to a higher standard of behaviour than the rest of us.

Slavery is a far wider matter than just about freedom of where they are or indeed receiving remuneration

There would be no consequences if Stones walked away from Everton and went to work at say Mc Donald's the consequences revolve purely around his registration to play football . so the argument goes full circle in that there is a valid arguement around football rules re tapping up but the suggestion that Everton would go to law is doomed to failurer
Not so. It's a daft example anyway, as who's ever heard of a footballer walking away from a£35k a week contract to work for minimum wage ffs. However, if a player did break a contract and walked away then they'd be sued by their parent club for their market value. See Chelsea and Mutu for details (they sacked him but the principle is the same, he broke his contract)

If you are implying me mate, I totally agree he must stay, and if he does he should come out with some statement to appease the fans.
My argument is against those that believe he has been "ill advised" or "forced" into handing a transfer request. Own up to your actions, tell everyone you are happy to stay on September 2 and move on..

I wasn't mate, I hadn't seen your post. I take your point though.

Not behaviour mate, just a recognition of the circumstances.

He could and indeed should have handled this an awful lot better - make the request earlier, for example. I get he's a professional and he has to make personal decisions, but I also think that if he makes bad ones then he should rightfully be called out on it.

It's a job where you have fans and whether he likes it or not he's a role model by default.

Imagine 20 people hassling you while you are just trying to get fuel, he's a young lad and you know how passionate and verbal our supporters can be, treating players like public property when in fact he's a private young lad who is just good at football and getting paid for it. I'm sure the Chelsea fans dont hassle the players in the team car park which Ive been in.

Nah Chelsea fans are angels

Yep, I agree - idiots shout (/tweet?) the loudest, or something like that... and as someone said before it was obvious that he was being applauded and he had the balls to come over so can't have been anywhere near as bad as 'the Echo chamber' made out...

...was just curious about Naismith, as he seemed to make some kind of 'shushing' gesture in his celebration.

I was wondering, after watching that clip of the moron shouting abuse, if John would have even heard him.

Keith Curle who manages Carlise was on Sky yesterday and he said that he and indeed most managers ,irrespective of who the player was, would be on their way if a player said they wanted out and maintained that stance.

I don't think it's anything at all to do with money it's more to do with managing the long term impact of having a player that wants out and the message that sends to future players or should I say future players agents
I suggest you are buying into narrative scripted for you by parties who do not best well represent you.

I think most would agree with that mate, although based on the unambiguous comments Martinez has made last night, it seems plausible that (see what I did there?) Stones put his request in half heartedly, in some state of confusion and under poor advice, and so he may not have maintained the stance. I hope that's what has actually happened as that would considerably help his rehabilitation with us fans.

Looks like this was true ...

Several people on Twitter stating that they were there when it happened

For anyone who missed the crying story, some lads started posting pictures of players at the service station after the game. The twittersphere's narrative is a lad said "We know it's the board, not you" and Stones is pulled away by Naismith, who tells the fans to stop putting pressure on the lad.

Mate was in the services with Stones. He said: 'We know it's the board and not you'. He started crying and was pulled away by Naismith.
— School of Science (@SOS1878) August 26, 2015

That Jacob lad looks like he was there, as he got a picture with Kone.

"We know it's the board and not you'.

What utter BS.

So the board asked Stones to hand in a transfer request, only for the club to reject it emphatically and then come out fighting, all guns blazing and stating quite clearly once again that they are not going to sell him. Even going as far as saying 'money can't buy everything', which leaves the club widely open to ridicule if they now were to accept a £40m or £50m bid.

Some of these fan groups that hate the board and want them out are so desperate to add to their narrative of the board being the devil that they make out absolutely every single thing wrong or bad or unfortunate at Everton is the sole responsibility of the board. It makes them look ridiculous and destroys their own credibility and the many good points they make. There's a massive Board thread so I won't turn this into that, but suffice to say, claming the Board are responsible for Stones transfer request is absolute nonsense in my eyes, and I'm one of the biggest critics of the Board and do indeed want them out. You cannot tie this Stones situation to them though.
