John Stones transfer saga

I thought you said you know how transfers work

Chelsea and Man Utd won't get into a bidding war. Chelsea clearly have set a budget and I doubt very much that Man Utd will be looking to bring in an expensive English CD they are well stocked in relation to HG players so if they are looking to brining in a CD there are far better options in the market

Chelsea on the other hand probably will be the club who at the end of the day place the highest bid there need is for a HG player . So tnequestion is will that trigger a sale or will the club refuse to sale and accept the possible backlash from that. to say there won't be any is naive

Evertons position in relation to keeping him, despite what some think is markedly weaker now the player has handed in a transfer request. In the day the clubs had total control of players destiny but the pendulum has swung there is no way any sensible club keeps a player who wants out unless you offer then something too good to refuse and that normally is a vast contract improvement or something of the like with a guarantee about letting them go

Stones will know what is on offer at Chelsea, his agent will be controlling and managing the process . I have seen it suggested he will be on over £100k a week so how can Everton trump that?

I know some will point at what's happening at WBA and that will be interesting but In the end I suspect if Spurs offer enough then a deal will be agreed similarly for every transfer request that is refused I suspect there are several dozen where it's been agreed for fear of having a disillusioned or disruptive and demotived player at the club

Chelsea outbid utd for pedro ...... utd would love to repay the favour imo

I wasn't comparing this situation to those mate, I agree, they are very different.

edit : When I was talking about our best players I was thinking of our current best players rather than those who have already left.

Stones is at fault for the timing of this, but the board are also at fault for having a business plan which increases the chance of this type of situation happening.

Putting aside the extra wages which Chelsea will be offering, he's likely to have more significantly opportunities to play at a very high level with Chelsea ( Champions League ) than he is at Everton. The risk for him is that he's not guaranteed to be first pick at Chelsea.
I think and hope it'll be a disastrous move for him. He's miles off. He'll be found out big time on the defensive side of his game. Some believe Mourinho and his staff will do a better job than Everton on that score. Good luck to them. Cahill was an infinitely better defender than Stones if not distributor when he went to Chelsea. He's been there years and I cant see any massive improvement in him.

Sick of this lad, and I'd feel nauseous if he was ever allowed to pull a Royal Blue jersey on again for us. Get the money and move very quickly on.

Because this is not a kindergarten mate it's a professional sports club, he's contracted and well paid at that so he meets his obligations.

If he doesn't like it he can kick a ball around in some corner of Finch Farm all by himself.

(PS this is how I would play it, I doubt the club will although I am always hopeful)

As if that would ever happen !! :D

They tried this with Lescott. Just creates a bad atmosphere around the place and makes people think twice before coming here.....

The silence from the club is deafening! The media department should have some response out.

Really think the board have orchestrated it, to be honest.

Charlie Adam's quotes say it all. Stones is not the type in my opinion and the way he's played recently illustrates this. The board would rather have £30-£40m than a centre back. Or any individual. But they can't cope with a big scandal, so turning everyone against the lad is a lot easier.

What about city. Suit them for him to sit in bench and not play for Chelsea. Good investment as well - also stupid with there money. If it was me I'd be telling them he's for sale if he really does want to go .. Let's milk this if it's going to happen

That's exactly what the RS did with Suarez, but like you, I don't believe our board has the balls...

I'd lock this thread until about 7 o clock our $hit house board will leave this till right up to kick off time before responding, and the only reason then is because martinez will be expected to speak to the media in the ground before the match. Even they're not that spineless to hang martinez out to dry (possibly)....

Seem to remember this being standard operating procedure for previous similar situations and also when Kirkby was rejected. Sky broke it first, 10 mins before kickoff away to Hull and Moyes was the first person Sky asked about it.

We should reject anything less than £40m and refuse to negotiate until they meet it.

We're still in a strong position.
I fail to see how we are in a strong position here. We have a player who doesn't want to play for our club, whose mind is all set on playing for another club. Other teams now know that he isn't committed to the cause. Think Joleon Lescott against Arsenal and that gives you an example of a player who isn't committed and whose head is elsewhere. Other teams will know Everton will be looking to get rid ASAP and so i doubt we will likely see anything over 35m.
