John Stones transfer saga

I'd lock this thread until about 7 o clock our $hit house board will leave this till right up to kick off time before responding, and the only reason then is because martinez will be expected to speak to the media in the ground before the match. Even they're not that spineless to hang martinez out to dry (possibly)....

We should reject anything less than £40m and refuse to negotiate until they meet it.

We're still in a strong position.

So based on your view of what should happen next, all those fine words from Martinez about building a team for the future, Stones, Barkley, Lukaku are empty platitudes.

Either Martinez believed what he has being saying and has been shafted by the Board or Stones, or Martinez is complicit in the whole deception.

Either way it would be highly unsatisfactory and would speak volumes of a malaise that exists within our club.

The only way Everton can emerge with any credit and credibility is to deny the request. They don't have to go public with the denial they just need to get on with the rest of their transfer business and tell Stones to prepare for Spurs on Saturday.

How can you now build a team around someone who doesn't want to be here ?

Not yet, but if Man Untied were to throw their hat in the bidding ring... Well that would see the fun begin and the Chelsea fume would be entertaining... £50 million and rising... And we should still say nowt till after the window closes !!

I thought you said you know how transfers work

Chelsea and Man Utd won't get into a bidding war. Chelsea clearly have set a budget and I doubt very much that Man Utd will be looking to bring in an expensive English CD they are well stocked in relation to HG players so if they are looking to brining in a CD there are far better options in the market

Chelsea on the other hand probably will be the club who at the end of the day place the highest bid there need is for a HG player . So tnequestion is will that trigger a sale or will the club refuse to sale and accept the possible backlash from that. to say there won't be any is naive

Evertons position in relation to keeping him, despite what some think is markedly weaker now the player has handed in a transfer request. In the day the clubs had total control of players destiny but the pendulum has swung there is no way any sensible club keeps a player who wants out unless you offer then something too good to refuse and that normally is a vast contract improvement or something of the like with a guarantee about letting them go

Stones will know what is on offer at Chelsea, his agent will be controlling and managing the process . I have seen it suggested he will be on over £100k a week so how can Everton trump that?

I know some will point at what's happening at WBA and that will be interesting but In the end I suspect if Spurs offer enough then a deal will be agreed similarly for every transfer request that is refused I suspect there are several dozen where it's been agreed for fear of having a disillusioned or disruptive and demotived player at the club

£40m and not a penny less.

Rio went for £30m over a decade ago. Prices have massively inflated since then.

As I was writing this, just chuckled to myself remembering this is the Everton board dealing. £28m plus addons it is then.

Papers reporting a Chelski offer around 33M today. I think those on here suggesting 40,45,50M are being a little irrational. IMHO we wont get more than 35M. I know we all want more and some may even think he is worth more but realistically what do you feel the final number will be?

Supposedly it's Martinez's call whether or not he sells him so if that was the case I would expect it to be 45-50m

If it was down to the board then 34m will do the trick. When the first bid came in the Echo ran a piece saying the board value him around 35m so they've obviously had a figure in mind.

Now, of that figure gets met which it looks like it will with this bid, it will be interesting to see of the board still sit on there hands and leave it to Martinez to reject, or will they step in and say it's too good an offer to refuse.

anything under 50m taking into account the % sell on fee, his potential and also how late in the window it is would be an absolute disgrace if accepted imo

Because this is not a kindergarten mate it's a professional sports club, he's contracted and well paid at that so he meets his obligations.

If he doesn't like it he can kick a ball around in some corner of Finch Farm all by himself.

(PS this is how I would play it, I doubt the club will although I am always hopeful)
