John Stones transfer saga

We cannot let him go for this season, sell (40M) with condition he's loaned back for rest of this season at the minimum. Jagielka as our only CB, are we serious ?!

He's on 30k a week mate. A lot of money to me or you, but, to put it in perspective, it's what we were paying Anichebe about 5 years ago, and he was hardly ever fit.

We could take the 30k per week hit, no problem. It would then be up to John if he wants to sit on the sidelines all season.

Just tell him he can go next season, and no sooner.

I don't think the powers that be would be too happy if we had a player sat on the bench all season, devaluing, who we refused a large amount for. I can't see an alternative ending at the moment.

Honestly i dont think there is, we sell stones we get money with no time to get proper replacement, and world football knowing we will be desperate.

we keep him and he potentially could be unhappy for a season.

its lose lose at the moment

So? Do you really think he'd sulk for an entire season and screw his career up?

This cliche about players being 'unhappy' is a red herring. If it was someone like Carols Tevez, a proven international player with a famously bad attitude, then fair enough, you get shut, but a very young, relatively inexperienced player still early in a long term contract? No chance.

How about sat in a treatment room de-valuing... Gibson, Pienaar et al.

It wouldn't surprise me if we are quiet because we are actually in negotiations with Chelsea for money, players etc.
We'll know more tonight, because Martinez will have to say something after the game. .

Martinez does not have to say anything at all.
He can refuse to comment.
He does not have to comment.
Everton do not have to comment.

Would never work. He puts in a transfer request, moves to CHELSEA and then gets LOANED back to us for a season? He'd be vilified every single game.

Do you want a player at the club who doesnt want to be there?? In a position where he is required and we have no other cover.

Imagine the moment he makes an error (which he does)... he will be slaughtered, the crowd will be on his back and he would be under the microscope, one missed clearance leading to a goal - "he doesnt want to be here".

I dont want him to go, i didnt want him to hand in a transfer request - but i do not want a player here who doesnt want to play for the club.

I'm guessing we said to Chelsea 'he's not for sale.'

We said to Stones 'you're not for sale.'

Stones said 'I want to leave.'

We said 'if you do, then hand in a transfer request, and don't make it the last week of the window.'

He's almost certainly going to leave. His position is untenable now I think. Hopefully we get two defenders in by Tuesday. Move on.
