John Stones transfer saga

It's the only outcome now. Stones is the past.

I just hope Martinez gets the cash and has major preparations in place for this so he can move very quickly getting four in before the window shuts.

Do you really think we'll roll that way, Martinez and board in accord ?

The ONLY way to go now.

Imagine him staying and making errors - and he makes plenty of them - he'll be slaughtered.

There's no future for him here. That's why his agent and Chelsea told him to hand a transfer request in: it brings matters hurtling to a conclusion.

Dave you have called it right all along, your understanding of Everton's modus operandi has no peers.

I must disagree with you though on this, the only way to go is to say "no you're not for sale, you're contracted to Everton and you are staying"

I know this won't happen but I really hope it does as the sale of Stones just confirms that we'll never advance, in fact we will continue our decline, under the current ownership.

Dangerous game though for the team, fans and shareholders. You can't asset strip and then expect top dollar when you eventually want to sell your club.

I'm not going to be one of those fans that starts slating Stones' ability saying he wasn't as good as we originally made out etc. because quite frankly he is and I am/was really excited to see how he'd develop and how our team would develop. Did I ever think he'd stay with us forever? No of course not, unless we somehow became a regular CL team then he was always going to leave. Did I think he'd leave now? Not a chance, he seemed much more level-headed and mature to do that. He will be missed and I can't say I won't resent him a little every time he plays for another team after this.

I just feel the manner in which this has been handle all summer has been absolutely piss poor by the club and we as fans - moreso those that pay considerable amounts each year to watch these players - are being treat with a complete lack of respect with their veiled promises and forlorn hope that we're a growing club.

Quite frankly this whole issue has upset me more than a sport really should but hey, that's football. I just hope now we as fans get the explanations we deserve but I know I'm clutching at almost invisible straws there.
Mate you will get absolutely no explanation, doesn't work like that here, we'll be fed absolute tosh and lies and have to live with it for the foreseeable

I see this from the angle of us not him. I dont care what he thinks. He's a player we gave a massive break to and worked hard to get him where he is right now.

The only person Everton supporters should have any empathy with right now is Martinez. He's the one been told by a player who stated in July he was delighted to be at Everton...then in the last week or so he's put the man who brought him through right in it.

I have contempt for Stones. He's not solely to blame, but he is to blame nevertheless.

He needs punting asap. No place for that sort at this club.
And thats your choice Davek, but im not going to blame the lad for wanting to move,I think there has been a fair bit of manouvering
going on behind the scenes, and the board can easily set a price and say to Chelsea this is what we want dont like it do one,but you know
they will snap chelseas hand off for anything over £35m

Martinez hasn't even sorted out a replacement for Distin / Alcaraz. He hasn't sorted out the fabled #10 that he's been going on about for months.

If he goes I doubt we'll get an adequate replacement and I doubt he'll spend the money we get in.

He's been badly advised here. He changed agents in the summer I believe and this has all the hallmarks of a classic agent lead tactical move. More fool him for agreeing to it. I thought he was better than that tbh, but seemingly not.

If he wants away, then it'll have to be on the clubs terms though and with a few days left of the window that isn't now. Refuse the request and tell him he can have his move after the Euros when it suits the club.

Thats the nail on the head right their though esk, they dont want to sell the club

Agree, if it's true, the club should have released a statement right away, even if they are sitting down with Stones and his agent to try and work something out, they could have put that out there.

He is still an Everton player so if anything happens concerning him it should come from the club not the 'kin media...been a circus for months this

By the way, the fact we're still waiting for a statement on this is the latest in a long line of disgraces for 'our' club.

Someone said before that they 'hope' Martinez has something to say tonight - it speaks volumes that we're just hoping we hear something about a transfer request from a key player within the span of 24 whole hours.

Yes, I do feel this request has come as a surprise to them.

Or certainly the publicising of it.....which we now know to be the work of his agent.

I am coming to the conclusion that the press were right over the weekend and that a request had been submitted.

But it was turned down and the club had no intention of selling him ax per the manager's statements.

That would explain Woods saying what he said.

Then the agent went nuclear.

So, if that us indeed the case nowt has changed.

The board can shoot this request down.....it is still in their power.

Just man up and do it, Everton.

(BTW I attach no credence to this airy fairy notion about the board "forcing" a transfer request to "make Stones look bad")

Do you believe that has happened before though? Saving of loyalty bonus, reducing backlash?? seems like sound business sense to me for a group of individuals who are already not at the top of everyones favourite list.

If the request was there or not, it remains to be proved if they are liars or not. leaked, or not it doesnt matter. We either tell him to stay and its refused, or they sell him and face something else to be beaten with.

I think something major is going on behind the scenes with martinez mate, ultimatum to the board or pleading with stones is my guess

Well said, Dave.
