You are correct it wasn't.

Cant you?Sickener if he goes but we can't hold it against the lad .... 4 times his salary and going to a club with ambition to win trophies .... No brainer really ...we end up with evans and a couple more nobodies and we will keep turning up every week .... Real low at this club if this happens worse than all of the others for me
Clearly the players see us as a stepping stone - we aren't building a team to fight the top six. If we were doing that we would have found the money to replace Pienaar last year - we haven't even done it this year. The chance of reaching the top and winning trophies as a professional footballer at Everton are almost zero unless something changes.I think Rom has already made it quite clear he will be moving on to a "bigger club" in the future.
The biggest problem is lack of ambition and no backing for the manager from the board - that why we cannot sign anybody and our good players end up leaving. That is fact mate !Some outstanding candidates for the crackpot of the year posts.
Keep up the good work and don't let logic and fact get in the way of blaming the board for Chelsea publicly lodging 3 bids and a media driven campaign to unsettle one of our players using their club friendly journalists and current and past players.
If you feel like that then I guess you are still expecting them to honor what they have been saying. "They won't sell".Some outstanding candidates for the crackpot of the year posts.

Cant you?
I can. He doesn't get a free pass for stabbing us in the back with 5 days to go in the transfer window.
Don't think they did. They said 25 mil and he can talk to other clubs otherwise he's staying.
Maybe if we showed some ambition and bought some more players he would of thought different ... He's leaving if true for 4 times his salary .... What would you do if you were him ?Cant you?

I now would never believe a thing this board says.
It's too convient that late in the window a transfer request is handed in. For the 5th time.
This all suggests to me a managed exit.
The things I have heard now look really cynical ploys by EFC.
It's all panned out as @davek said.
Up till the transfer request I believed the board.
Now I firmly believe @davek and we are being asset stripped cynically
But it's being done in a way where the boards hands look clean and they can blame the players for wanting to go.

Or the fact we hadn't spent it until now speaks volumes that the club were perhaps banking on chelsea coming back in? when they didn't they had to go to plan B. No evidence of this bar my opinion thoughNo of course not but it all adds up. There has been no mention of Martinez's transfer budget. Where was the Yarmalenko money coming from? I assume he still has that cash to use.
To be honest it doesnt matter anyway. No matter how much we spend we will end up in roughly the same position regardless. Football is terrible these days.
I think you could write a Hollywood style espionage blockbuster based on yours and others baseless theories on this situation.
