John Stones transfer saga

Touched apon it last night. The question that i would raise right now is why our transfer budget was only 5 million?! Clearly any further signings will be funded by the stones transfer, i am not buying the official story so until the board proves me wrong then i will continue to assume the plan was to sell to buy. But then that would leave us with the minimal outlay we have spent as our only expendure, compared to every club around us. More to the point it is the simple question of how can this club really be so poor?

And a observation, the club seem to have sold martinez down the river here because they are leaving him to face up to all these questions and media reports, whilst anyone at the club remain silent.

Indeed many have tried to point out that last reported accounts were far too dependant on player sales and TV revenue and in 2014/15 both those revenue streams reduced significantly coupled with the fact that there was a major outlay on players last season really should have started ringing alarm bells. And an accounting profit doesn't mean that there is or was readily available funds.

Martinez should walk in today and say Listen John, what you did was disrespectfully to this great club, so he is what happens now. You will not be sold for any price and now you will play for the reserves till next season

And at the end of the season such an approach would see him leave on a free transfer

Martinez shoulda came out and announced the transfer request in his press conf yesterday....that way at least we coulda put our own spin on the story - doesn't change anything, still under contract, not going anywhere - that kinda stuff.

Yes because John Stones wanting to leave is much more believable than some crackpot conspiracy theory about the board misleading us for no apparent reason.

Well there is a reason mate

They were misleading us about Stones going so they could hike up the price for his eventual sale

Stones has got his head down and played to his fullest during all of this. Should the rumours be true, the heat should be on the board and not him. He's making a decision for his career and nothing more

I firmly believe he will still be an Everton player in a weeks time, but not in a years time.

The only player that I can think of who has premiership experience and is available to replace Stones is Johnny Evans and that is not inspiring.
I think that if Stones leaves then Browning should be given a chance.

If John Stones is to be sold then Everton need to take control, as Liverpool did, set the price and stick to it. 50m and reject everything else , it would really put it up to Mourinho and see just how badly he wants the player.

Doesn't help us either way that really thought does it? We have very few senior CB's, letting him rot in the reserves is alright in theory, but we either need him playing or the money to replace him.

lose lose situation we are in all around.

Martinez could walk in and say "give me one more year and then we'll sell you" and I'm pretty sure Stones, being the professional he is, would get his head down and get on with it

That's what I'm hoping happens. Then, we'll have the Stones money up front in time for next years summer window. Sell him as soon as the window opens next season and then re-build

He is contracted for 4 more years. There is no prerogative to sell. He is a brilliant player who is imo irreplaceable. From the stats he is worth at least 10-15 points a season. Why would we sell?
I think we have to hold Chelsea to ransom on this one. if he is sold for anything near £30M it would be criminal.
I honestly think that if we dug our heals in and said sorry John mate, but you cant leave this window, he wouldn't just sulk as it would hurt his career as much as us. He would just get on with it and play harder than ever for the move. If he plays a blinder then we can sell him for £50M next season and if he has a shocker, then no one will be interested in him anymore and so he will prob sign a new deal. Win Win.

Does anyone on earth actually think 1. Marrinez will be given the full sale money, never mind more on top. 2. That we wont sell. 3. That we wont drag this sale out till the latest we can to minimize the time to spend. 4. That we wont use this as an excuse for a poor season and use the timing to explain why we had a neagative net spend of epic proportions. 5. That Martinez with less than 5 days to effectively rebuild a defense that he failed to do in all his time at wigan and has failed to address this summer is suddenly going to be able to sort our bacl line out.

Weve been screwed by the board once again. Clap, clap, clap

1. He probably will be given it. Martinez has been backed so far.
2. Every player has a price that their club will sell for. They have said they dont want to sell and will leave it to Martinez, Stones handing a request in changes the situation somewhat.
3. Or we drag it out to make sure we get the best deal instead of just dealing for a lower amount?
4. Yeah, we may as well give up now eh?
5. Wigan is irrelevant. Different clubs with different situations. He did try to buy Stones for Wigan though.

Then why would that conversation not have already taken place, without the transfer request?

He's gone mate.

im not a finance expert nor do i have an in depth knowledge of all our incomings and outgoings.

But simply having such a low amount available despite all the increased money again flowing into the club is absolutely frightening to see. The issue here is not selling to buy by any means, its the fact the club has been run down to this position by the current board and the fact so many fans don't see it! i can echo all the worries about kenwright and co but the fact remains we are still slowly being driven into the ground after being lied to all along. How many fans will not even notice the lack of money if we spent the stones transfer? Call the lad a judas for wanting to move to the league champions and still hang on to their integrity because kenwright is doing the best for the club?

It is almost like we are not planning on success, as that involves more money and the board would be happy with a midtable finish under the manager and quietly go along with loaning all our money away
