John Stones transfer saga

John stones is worth more to everton on the pitch then the money in the bank. Let's face it Martinez wouldn't be given the full amount anyway. We are desperately short at centre half as it is. We should inform stones we are not in a position to sell him (we aren't) and that he should give us at least one more season. Stones can't really argue with that, his place in the England squad is at risk if he downs tools and refuses to play. Something I don't think he would do. Look how suaraz treated the RS that summer, he was told he wasn't going and rewarded them with his best ever season. Stones should do likewise.

This 100%
It also sends the right message to the young generation we have at the club currently.

It makes so much sense.

Ha yes I guess so.....don't think we'll sell for less than 38m....board know his potential worth, Chelsea know his worth...and despite the transfer request, I don't think Stones is the type to throw a diva fit.....

Perfect outcome right now would be Man City come in with £40m, and offer to loan him back to us for the season....

It'd have to be a bid of £44m odd then.

I'm really worried people will forget 15% of this fee is not ours.

Hopefully Martinez tells him to pipe down and Chelsea where to go. This is about pride now, not business.

The lad can get his head down and give us a full season, unless he wants to lose his England place.

Is there any evidence of prices being hiked up once a team receives money for a transfer? It sounds a lot like something Moyes would say as an excuse for not buying, and has somehow become accepted as fact by Evertonians.

I'm sure Everton have known the score for a lot longer than we have, so if they haven't got replacements identified and priced then they're even more incompetent than I thought.

Its also about business; the boy will be worth £50m next summer.

Each league place is worth nearly £1m. Difference between 7th and 12th is around 5 or 6 million.

Andy Carroll - 35million

I don't give a flying feck anymore what's the point of it all, we find ourselves a great player he goes if we find another one he'll go and if we find another one after that he'll go, and on and on and on it goes, If this yamz fella signs and has a great season he'll go. I know supporting a team is not all about winning things but what drives you on is the hope one day you get a team together that can challenge the top team if only for a cup. Outside the top sky 4 team and poss the rs no one else has a chance the best you can hope for is a top half finish with the outside chance of a top 5 finish, and though I don't necessarily blame the board for this particular fiasco, the root of it all lies in the boards failure to invest in the club and lack of ambition. Having to console my grandson who was in floods of tears at the news of Stones going was heart braking, this saga is probably the last straw for me, unless something amazing happens this will my last season as a season tk holder. I'm just fed up with it all.

Happened when we sold Rooney.
Arguably McCarthy would have been cheaper if we hadn't just sold Fellaini.

Summary:

1) Paper talk is correct: Stones delayed putting in transfer request
Because:

a) He didn't want to go but Chelsea pressure was too intense and offer too good to refuse
b) Everton instructed him to say nothing until price was driven so high the board can't refuse (aka Doing a Fellaini)

2) Paper Talk is incorrect: Because:

a) More pressure is being applied by Chelsea to "get their man"

Scenario 1a) Everton screwed for replacements by late departure - unless we've sorted that out (seems unlikely we have)
Scenario 1b) Everton have driven the whole thing, accepting he will go and have set up replacements (who exactly are we sure to get?)
Scenario 2) Everton will either hang on and refuse to sell (don't bank on that) or will cave in and collect a big fee.
