John Stones transfer saga

We boo half the first team anyway so no change!!
Apart from Kone, no individual player has really been the target of boo's. I suspect if/when the request gets rejected, he will continue playing for Everton. I also expect him to be the target of at the very least, some choice words.

Glad he's going really..... anybody willing to pay over 20 million for a one season wonder is nuts... if we double that and bring in johnny evans and van dijk we will be much stronger and in profit.

Come home John

Supporting Chelsea must be like playing Football Manager with 'sugar daddy' turned on. It's great to win something every now and then but there is always the nagging feeling that every single good thing that happens to the club has been bought with dirty money. A soulless asterisk attached to everything. Easy to shrug off for the ignorant, but anyone with any sense of morality of self-awareness will have that feeling eating away at them on a daily basis, painfully aware that it's not sustainable and that everything they pretend to believe in, isn't real.

So to clarify, you don't blame the club at all for not sitting down with the player and talking to him for the last month this has been happening, and truly believe John Stones has kept his desire to go to Chelsea a complete secret until this afternoon?

You honestly believe that? Really?

Pretty sure EFC have spoken with Stones about this since the 1st bid....and Martinez would have told him he wants him to stay
...
What did you want the board to do, accept Chelsea's first bid?....we've been playing hard ball, hoping either Chelsea offer crazy money (like man city did with Sterling), or Stones was happy to stay for a few years (when we know he'll most likely be worth more than 30m....certainly more than Chelsea's first 3 bids which have all been less than what United paid for Shaw, and considerably less than what Chelsea sold Luiz for).....

I can fault the board for a lot of things....but not this.....Chelsea tactics here have been disgraceful!.....they used the media to tap up our player In a way I've never seen before (even having Chelsea players been given TV time to tell Stones to come to their club)....Chelsea also decided to make the first bid public, knowing full well this would start a media circus.
Man City started negotiating for Sterling 2 months ago....and paid Liverpool's asking price (over paid).....Chelsea have deliberately waited till late on hoping to back us into a corner, and accept a lesser fee than they know Stones is worth...
Thankfully our board has stood up to Chelsea so far....which is why Chelsea have clearly asked Stones to hand in a transfer request to force the move.....
For me the transfer request changes nothing....our selling price should remain the same, and if Chelsea don't meet that then stones is going nowhere.
Liverpool held strong on Suarez when Arsenal triggered his release clause (and Suarez begged to leave).....Suarez stayed, had his best season at Liverpool, and got a bigger move.....Stones will be professional and will play on if this move doesn't happen (he still has alot to play for)....

At the moment I'm more on the side of keeping hold of him & just playing him as we have been. I'd like to see us actually call the shots for once & not bow to the so-called "elite" when it comes to stuff like this, and it'd be great to stick two fingers up to the media who have been desperate for the move to happen for ages. We've been a soft touch in the past but we need to change & start making a statement if we ever want to be taken seriously as a top club again. It's the principle, more than the money, that I'm arsed about.

Pretty certain the lad is making a bad decision here either way. Having said that, knowing him & Martinez, I'd like to think that things wouldn't become too toxic going forward.

The single biggest reason why this MUST BE rejected is that it totally undermines everything that Martinez is striving to achieve at the club.

Rom's comments were spot on as to why this should be rejected.
It opens up the doors to Barkely, Rom, McCarthy to think 'why bother..?' as well as the likes of Garbutt, Galloway, Holgate (if they progress as they should) etc in the future to stay at the club for 2 years or so and then sod off at the earliest opportunity.

If it was me, should Stones be sold, I would walk if I was in Martinez's position.

It goes against everything he says and wants to develop at the club. Yes I understand he is on the clubs payroll, but a reputation in football is priceless; he loses Stones with a week to go and its awful for his season's plans. Another bottom half finish and he can kiss good bye to a job better than Everton; he can kiss good bye to this job too as the fans wouldnt stand for it.

This is more than just seeing the £40m incoming; we can get so much more next Summer for him and as he has stated previously, the clubs finances dont dictate that we need to sell to balance the books.

If we accept the transfer request and sell now, you're dead wrong in your assessment.

If we don't, you'd be right.

We'll see won't we.
