John Stones transfer saga

Here's a question:

If Stones is absolutely not for sale and doesn't want to leave, why have Chelsea bothered coming back with a third bid?
I think it's fairly obvious that Chelsea know he would be open to a move, but their is a difference between that and forcing it. If he were ever thinking about forcing it (which i hope he doesn't) the sooner the better. Don't want him doing it on Aug 28th

Because no player on earth is absolutely not for sale.

They're fully entitled to bid for players they want - just as we're fully entitled to tell them to sod off if they don't value the player to the amount we do.

I agree, but if Chelsea knew club didn't want to sell and/or Stones didn't want to leave I think they'd have looked elsewhere by now.

The lad is behaving respectfully to us whilst you'd imagine being interested in a prospective move to the current champions . I've no problem with his behaviour at all and a few other 'evertonians' in the past could learn a lesson from his conduct , so far at least .

"Not being for sale" to me just means Everton are not actively looking to sell him and Stones hasn't asked to be sold. Sadly, I don't think it means the same as 'he will not be sold no matter what so just sod off'.

Probably because they will not take no for an answer and have a very arrogant bullying manager and a chairman with an open wallet

Exactly.

Mourinho and Buck and Abramovitch are totally unused to having people say "no" to them.

They cannot handle people not kowtowing to them.

Jose's treatment of Eva being a classic example.

The fume-o-metre must be at boiling point down Stamford Bridge right now and this will rumble on and on right until the curtain comes down on this sorry saga come September.

What other domestic potentially world class English John Terry replacement is on the market?

They want the next decade sorted and see a potential Chelsea & England captain in my view; that would not be achieved via the likes of Varane who will mercenary out of the club like De Gea in a heartbeat a few years down the line.

Mourinho is 100% correct in targeting Stones, and he will continue to do so. His one mistake was trying to get him on the cheap - which is surprising, because if he'd have done his homework he'd have known the lad is very level-headed and would not rock the boat for the move right now.

And let's be clear - even if Stones does want the move, he'd have made noises through his agent by now if he wanted it urgently. I think he sees the bigger picture - Chelsea aren't an "A-grade" big club; I think he knows the proper giants of football will be in for him if he carries on.

Imagine Mourinho doing his weekly shop:

"How much is the toothpaste?"

"That's £3.00 sir"

"I'll give you £1.00"

"Err no, it's £3.00"

"£1.10?"

"No, £3.00"

"£1.20?"

etc etc!

The guys behind in the queue would never get home!

Very poor....

What we do know is that 2 players who were the subject of transfer speculation and not wanted to be sold by the manager were given new contracts in this transfer window.

That makes it even more imperative that John Stones gets a new contract done in this window whom is seen as our most prized asset and as Bobby says is not being sold.....so again why is it not being done unless......

There's a world of difference between the media attempting to generate revenue with fictitious rumours and real transfer negotiations.

As I said we don't know how long McCarthy and Mirallas were in negotiations over improved contracts, and seeing as both players where entering the later stages of their previous deals it was inevitable we'd be trying to tie them down with new terms. Stones isn't in this position and we have a strong hand to play here. Like people have said there's no point clouding the situation at the moment, and it's doubtful Stones camp would welcome it either while the windows open and the club is turning down real bids.

If they offered £100m we'd accept (not that they will like)

We've rejected £30m

Somewhere between £30m and £100m lies a figure at which we'd be unable to say no.

I doubt Chelsea are going to offer a fgire that is that obscene that we simply can't refuse.

The only reason this will happen in this window is if the player hands in a request. There's no signs or even hints that he's going to do so, so this will fizzle out imo.
