John Stones transfer saga

Being realistic he probably would like the move to go through, that doesn't mean he's unhappy here... If you get offered a better job in terms of both income and prospects you're probably going to want to take it.

He seems like a level headed lad and surely he'll see that regular first team football for another season is a far better way to develop his long term career than sitting on Chelseas bench?

Anybody with a Twitter account, get on there and rip that Charlie Wyett a new one please, this is a team affair we are running here, all GOT's get on the offensive!

Offer him more than he's earning. Offer him a weekly wage competitive with our important players in the team.

If he wanted the most money he would go to Chelsea. But who doesn't want to earn more money and feel valued by their employer?

Yeah see where you are coming from, but that's what I basically said - we'll offer him increased terms at reasonable intervals; if we did it now, it's just seem unnecessary to me.

I expect him to be offered one in January or next summer personally, and I think Stones would expect one about then too, rather than throwing pieces of paper at his agent now out of panic.

i agree with tubey here. if £20m offer is not going to unsettle him, why will the £30m? it's not an extra £10m to him.
Don't think it's the pure value, I assume it's just the feeling of being wanted. I don't think it'll work so much, but I suppose from Chelsea's standpoint it's worth a try. No matter how unethical it may be, I doubt it bothers them

If Chelsea ever up their offer to £36+ million then he's gone. Bill wont refuse that amount of money - face it you blerts money talks!

Personally I'd like to keep him a year, he storms the Euro's and his value and exposure rise - Chelsea, Man U, PSG. Barca and Real Madrid will all be in for him - possible value then would be £50 million.

Can Bill keep his nerve? I hope so but I doubt it very much.

Stop being so reasonable mate.

Wrong again. The onus is on EFC to acknowledge the market value of there players contracts and ensure they are offering the right value to the player. Stones market value has gone through the roof therefore the contract he was signed on is not fit for purposes based on his current value to a buyers mkt. Good clubs protects there most prize fin assets by being of the front foot unless of course the club was hedging the bets and the player is still actually for sale based on a valuation the board feel overrules the manager and player.

As you well know

Isn't it a little early for the Special Brew?

On topic: there will almost certainly be performance-based pay increases built-in to Stones' contract that should reflect his value to the team. If this isn't the case he has an astonishingly bad agent. I wouldn't be opposed to offering a new deal after the wondow closes but to do so before is a signal to every agent associated with our players to drum up transfer interest for pay rises at every opportunity. Seems unwise.

Regarding the transfer generally, it still seems to me that selling for anything less than £40m makes no sense, and that it's only as you edge closer to £50m that we might see any benefit of selling in this window. And even at that level it would be difficult to reinvest the money into the squad with less than two weeks of the window remaining, unless we've already identified exactly who we'd recruit with the sale fee.

Now come on Sir you know fine well Chelsea can and will be able to pay John Stones more money than we could offer, you will also have seen this scenario being played out countless times before with other players at other clubs. If this was simply about how much John Stones can earn we'd not stand a chance and he would have handed in a transfer request weeks ago, or his agent would have made his position known through the media and they'd have forced a move by now.

The fact that none of this has happened strongly indicates Stones isn't solely driven by how much he earns at the moment and offering an improved contract isn't likely to sway him to stay one way or the other Sir.
Obviously I can see where Chico's coming from but have to agree with you.
I think he sees he's at a good place to advance his carreer by playing regularly. He knows he's a vital part of the machinery here.
He doesn't need to move to get into the England team.
A good Euros and the offers will be flooding in from all over Europe so his agent can probably see the benefit of looking at things long, or at least, mid term.

This last bit is more optimistic. I'm hoping that the management are convincing him and other coveted players that we are going to bring in more talent and that the club are on the move.
