John Stones transfer saga

I'm not worried because Martinez will look an absolute fool if we wind up selling him now, after being some vehement about not selling him. He has to be supremely confident that the club aren't selling him, given his very public stance.

I really don't think he'd put his credibility on the line to such a degree if there was a chance he was going. He'd give a wishy washy answer and not be so certain.

The simple fact that we only have 2 first team central defenders in Jags and Stones shows that we can't sell him now even if we wanted to.

People can point to the papers and go 'there's no smoke without fire' but as the McCarthy/Mirallas/Baines/Coleman sagas illustrated, journalists increasingly know absolutely nothing about Everton and have no sources at the club.

Can't sell him now even in the unlikely event he wanted to.....not with Baines out long term.

Hard enough bedding another LB in without giving yourself the same headache at CB.

I have no doubt there will be a bid or two, if not a bidding war, the last week or so of the window.
Let's see who has the courage to stick to their convictions.
All it takes is Stone's head to be turned by the tapping up that will intensify behind closed doors over the next 2 weeks (and I think we all now Jose and others will be going at it), and if he requests a move, are we strong enough to refuse?

LOL...drama queen.

Yes, Stones himself is the key.

EFC will not sell as long as he is happy to stay.

John seems a level headed sort of lad who is actually playing better since the speculation started so I can't see him agitating for a move now.

Especially after that team performance today.....I don't think he would walk away from that just yet.

I agree mate. But the tapping up that will go on from now until end of window will intensify I am sure.
Club needs to hold firm regardless what player wants. Worst case, offer a new contract.

Seriously though...Stones is a smart lad. He will defo be in the England team next summer if he stays. If he rots on the bench in Chelsea, his inclusion would most certainly be in doubt.

I've honestly stopped worrying about this. Barring proper stupid money now I don't think this is happening.

If a bid of £45m or something comes in, then fair play, we should accept, but I'm convinced it'll take something like that now.

His performance level hasn't dropped despite all the speculation which is a good sign.

As has been said before, his stature can only grow and if it does then he'll be attracting better offers than Chelsea.
All we can do is keep playing him, enjoy the time we have him here and hope that our clubs ambitions match his own.
The sad truth is that this is unlikely to happen with the current regime

£45m to us and they can pay Barnsley their cut too, or sod off.

Can only see them going as high as £35m which will include add ons, which we'll reject, and Jose will come out either directly or through one of his many mouthpiece papers and make us sound ridiculous for rejecting it. Something about English talent being way overpriced and us standing in his way. If Roberto then pointed out that he's worth more than David Luiz he'd win the war.

mourinho's arrogance is crucial to all this now. he tried it on with a cheap bid, he won't back down now and put in a bid anywhere near stone's value because itwill look like he has been taken for a ride. chelsea clearly don't value him in a way that will turn Stone's head. It will take a manager with a clear idea of what he wants from him and willing to put a bid in that reflects that and what he means to us. I dont see this happening for a few years. maybe never.
