John Stones transfer saga

To me the Holgate purchase is evidence that we won't sell Stones. If we were planning on it, I think we would have gone for a more experienced player who could immediately slot into the first team, not one for the future.

Either way mate, we still need one. We need to keep Stones though, if he goes it would mean we need two new experienced centre backs. I have a feeling Chelsea will give up though and come back next summer instead, when they really need him.

Anyone remember that season in in 2009, when we were bogged down with injuries, we were forced to play a defence comprising of Baines, Coleman, Hibbert and Lucas Neill, with the two formers playing centre back against Spurs?

I would suggest you read back (yes 499 pages) & gauge opinion. 30 odd mil is nowhere near his value in todays crazy world ie Sterling 49 mil.Its all in here mate.

Forward players almost always, fetch a better price than Defenders, not because they are more important on the pitch just because they sell more merchandise. Anyway Bob was pretty adamant today, which suggests again, he has confidence in Stones not wanting away. So he should stay, he would have been crucified by the press as well from all and sundry if he was in Chelsea shirt against Watford last Saturday!

Yup,I would have loved someone to have told him that we are trying to build a decent side the correct way with players such as Stones,Barkley,McCarthy,Coleman,Baines,Lukaku,Jagielka,Mirallas etc,we almost achieved it a couple of years ago,and its not beyond the realms of possibility it can happen again,do these characters not want anyone to break into their beloved SKY cartel?

That is it with Talk Sport, they were bricking it when we were pushed Arsenal on that 4th, you could almost feel how gutted they would be if we got it and left them with only 3 teams to talk about on Champions league night.

Think about how often a defender like him, at his age, pops up...you build sides with potential like that, you don't sell it. If he wants to go, it's one thing but with all the young talent we have we (including fans) should be supporting them in a proper manner and shooting for however high they can reach.

Last of the Mohicans, eh?
Couldn't agree more, football seems to have taken a back seat while money sits firmly at the wheel. I see Stones as the future of Everton, along with our other young stars, unfortunately the majority appear to see players as £££££££££££££££££.

I particularly liked this from the second one - he's had one injury and now he's injury prone crock!

"Moreover, amidst the fallout of Mourinho’s current controversies involving Eva Carneiro – which have been the result of building frustration with the Chelsea medical team – he would be ill-advised buying a player who has endured plenty of injury problems already in his short career. A recurring ankle problem that required surgery ruled him out for more than two months – in two separate spells on the sidelines – last season and almost meant he missed the season opener against Watford at the weekend. Given his performance in the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park, it would not be surprising to learn that the injury was still troubling him."

People have to remember, when Martinez was brought into manage Wigan he had to undergo a massive reduction in spend on transfers and wages.

So, the likes of @MartSlinger saying he will walk are far from it. He will be like Moyes getting paid a good wage to lump it. If he done it at Wigan and spoke highly about Dave " broke a leg at Wembley " Whelan he will do the same here unfortunately.

Mooms. Not sure of the circumstances on the Wigan side of things, but couldn´t the cutbacks on spending/wages have been necessary and therefore acceptable to Martinez who obviously has strong ties to the club. Would be a different scenario to the "who the hell knows what money we have" scenario we have here, and thusly we can´t be sure he would play along as many believe Moyes did.

If there's no romance in the game, what's the point?

I was lucky in that I was captured and raised by old school Blues (some 3 times my age) on the internet 22 years ago, before things went sour. I've no idea if some of them are even alive today but I thank them.

I was amused by the Daily Express' (yes) headline, 'Stones shock £30m Man Utd move not happening', especially considering Utd haven't even made a bid for him.

Some of the tabloids are now beyond parody, such is their desperation for clicks & making stuff up.

gotta be honest mate that sounds dodgy as fk

Chris Hansen didn't exist back then...
